Chapter 20 - The Funeral
Alice POV
I woke up. Where was i? Everything came rushing back.
The battle, the sleeping potion.
Luna was dead. I swallowed holding back my tears.
I turned around. My friends looked like they had just woke up.
Ginny was paler than pale.
I pulled myself up in to a sitting position.
I turned to Ginny, "Ginny," I crocked, "Are you ok? You fainted."
"I broke my ankle when I fell," She replied, "Its ok now though."
I looked at the window. Hermione was standing there. "Hermione," I started.
Hermione at hearing her name spun roud and ran over to me.
She gave me a hug. Tears were running down her face.
"Itts its," Hermione stuttered.
"It's what Hermione?" I enquired.
"Its Luna's funeral today!" Hermione started sobbing.
Ron came over and comforted our upset friend.
"How is it?" I asked, "She only ddddied yesterday?" I was missing something.
Ginny stood up and came and sat on the end of my bed.
"Alice?"
"Yes?"
"Well there's no easy way to say this but..."
I was now really confused.
"But?" I asked.
"You've been asleep for three days. Ron, Hermione and I were asleep for two just. The potion didn't work properly on you." She answered me in one breath.
"WHAT!" I erupted, "I had better get up then! I have to go see LLLuna!"
Tears started running down my face.
I couldn't stop them.
I stood up. Rom and Hermione moved out of my way. Hermione's tears were starting to dry.
I grabbed the robes Ginny held out for me and I went in to the bathroom.
I met a surprise in the mirror. My hair was neatly tied up in two plaits.
Ginny appeared at the door, "I was bored so I did it for you."
I gave her a watery smile.
I pulled my robes on and splashed cold water on my face. From the toothbrush rack I pulled a ruby red tooth brush and matching tooth paste and I did my teeth.
I felt refreshed.
I exited the bathroom.
Ginny, Hermione and Ron were already ready and waiting on me. Madam Pomfrey was waiting on me when I joined them, "Are you ok Alice?" she asked me.
I nodded my head in reply.
"The funeral parade is starting from here."
I turned around.
A large blue and bronze coffin was sitting in the middle of the floor surrounded by all the teachers.
I turned to Hermione, Ron and Ginny.
They were all holding radishes.
Lunas favourite plant.
Hermione handed me one ond the coffin started moving.
Tears ran down my face as we followed it.
Why Luna! Why!
She was a great girl.
I felt sorry for Ginny.
She was even closer to Luna than me.
Students were staring at us before following down to the river.
A hole was dug next to the edge of the grass.
Hagrid joined us and he squeezed my shoulder. I gave him a small smile through my tears.
We stopped.
Dumbledore stood up on a small platform and cleared his voice.
"Today we are here to say goodbye to a much loved student, Luna Lovegood. She was killed by the death eater Bellatrix Lestrange whilst protecting her fellow classmates. She shall be missed here in Hogwarts. Good bye Luna."
At these words Luna was lowered in to her grave.
I noticed her father. He had lost his wife and his daughter.
She was only 11 coming 12.
She hadn't had a chance to live properly.
She couldn't grow up.
She couldn't get a job.
She couldn't get married.
She couldn't have kids.
She was tortured to death for no reason at all.
The thought made me feel sick.
She hadn't hurt anyone.
I was never going to see her again.
I fell to the ground in tears.
Another innocent person killed by the dark side.
