Chapter 48 – The Hidden Wolf

Alice POV

“Ethan it’s all my fault!” Ethan hugged me close. Tears were streaming down my face.

“No Ali. It isn’t. No one knew.” Ethan whispered in t my hair.

We were standing I an empty street off Diagon Ally.

No one was passing us.

“IT IS! You don’t know…”

“Know what Alice?”

“That i… i…”

“Alice you what?” Ethan pushed me away and put his hands on my shoulders.

“I did it!” I rushed in one gulp of air.

“You did what Alice?”

“I caused Ginny to nearly die!”

“What happened on the train wasn’t your fault.”

“It’s not about that!”

“I don’t believe this Al. What’s going on?”

“I think I pulled out Ginny's cables.” I lowered my voice.

“You didn’t Ali.”

“I did! I know it! I'm sure…”

“You should know if you did Alice.”

“It all went black. The next thing I knew I was back in the waiting room.”

“You must have got upset and blanked out.”

“I hope so Eth. I can’t take any more of this.”

“I can’t either Alice”

“Then how about we run away together? We would all be safe then.”

“Alice running away won’t solve things. Anyway I can’t. It’s full moon tonight.”

“What does that mean?”

“I’ll be transforming.” He groaned. “It’s painful.”

“Oh Ethan!” I hugged him as tight as I could.

I felt sorry for him.

No one should go through so much pain so often.

“Alice I’m getting rather tired. It’s a side effect of the potion.”

“What potion? Do you want to sit down?”

He too my hand and lead me over to a bench.

“Wolfs bane potion. It makes me keep my mind.”

“Do you lose it?” My voice was lower than ever.

“I do when I don’t take the potion. It’s worse then.”

These works stuck in my head.

They played over and over like a broken record.

He sounded so vulnerable and little.

Suddenly it started to drizzle.

I felt my hair sticking up and bushing out.

“Lets go Eth…”

Wham! Rain started pouring down. Ethan grabbed my hand and headed for a door way.

“Alice, Whatever happens I am here for you. Ok?”

“Ok.” A tear rolled down my face.

“Hey Alice! Don’t you start raining too!” Ethan whipped the tear off my face and put his arm around me.

“I can’t help it Ethan. I just feel soo…”

“Sad? Depressed?”

“You just hit the nail on the head. I just can’t go on feeling like this!”

Ethan sat down on the door step and closed his eyes.

“Ethan? Are you ok? ETHAN!” I screamed at him my eyes brimming with tears.

“I am fine Alice. Honest.”

“You look ill! You need to go to St Mungos!”

“I’ll be there soon anyway. Full moon.”

“Oh… sorry.”

“Alice did I ever tell you how cute you are?”

“No?”

“Well I’m telling you now. You are incredibly cute.”

“Ethannnnn.”

“Allliiiicccceee.”

“But what if she…”

“Hush, hush. She won’t.”

“I'm trusting you on this one Ethan.”

“I trust myself too. Cling on to hope Alice. Cling on to it.”

“Ethan… I hope you won’t mind me asking this…”

“Yes Alice ask away, I am guessing what it is though.”

“Where do you transform under the full moon?”

“I have a safety room in my house. If I don’t take the potion I end up in St Mungos.”

“Have you been taking it?”

“No. I haven’t had the time.”

“Is it really bad without it?”

“The biggest pain in this world. It feels worse than death.”

“Ohh…”

“It feels like your being thrown on a fire, roasted to death.”

“Eth…”

“Feels like you have had a muggle bomb blowing you apart. Your intestines being ripped out!”

“Oh my…”

“And do you know why! Why! Because I was bit. One bite and my life was changed.”

“ETHAN!”

I lunged towards him on the step and wrapped my arms around him.

We both had tears running freely down our cheeks.

“I never knew it was so bad!”

“Neither did I until I was bit.”

“What happened to the rest of your family?”

“The wolf killed my aunts and uncles. Oh and all my cousins.”

“So you just have your mum, dad and your grandparents?”

“Basically, yes.”

“I feel so sorry for you Ethan! It’s cruel you live like that!”

“Don’t you think I know it? I dwell on the past sometimes. It can be nasty.”

“I could tell you that Ethan. Just keep looking forward.”

“What's going on here? I’m supposed to be comforting you!”

“Well the tables have turned then Ethy-boy!”

“Ally-bally! Two can play at that game!”

“Really Eeth-beef?”

“Yup Ali-girl! Gonna do a twirl?”

“Sorry! Eeth-Teeth”

“Stop being such a girl!”

“How can I? I am one?”

“Just remember this Ali. We’re in this together.”

I looked in to Ethan's eyes.

“We’re in this together.”
