Chapter 57 –Flooing to School

Alice Pov

I stepped in to the fire. The trunks had been sent on ahead. Professor Dumbledore was expecting us to arrive in his office any minute now. I had been nominated to go first.

I grabbed the floo powder. “Dumbledore’s office!” I stepped in…

I clattered out of the fire place in Dumbledore’s grand office.

“Hello Alice.” I looked up Dumbledore himself was standing above me, his eyes sparkling.

“You are here ahead of the other students. They will not be here for another hour at the least. All the teachers are currently on the train to stop any… mishaps from happening.” The kindly old professor was choosing his words carefully.

I got up and moved out of the way just before Ginny emerged from the fire place.

“Ahh its Miss Weasley herself! Pleased to have you back!” Dumbledore helped Ginny up.

“Gin what took you so long?”

Ginny looked at me with a look that clearly said ‘mum’.

I laughed inside at Ginny. She could be so comical at times.

I looked at the clock. Ethan… I would see him soon. I needed him to think properly. I needed his presence around me to be normal.

No one else had the same effect on me. Ethan made me feel alive. Happy.

He made me smile even in my darkest moments. Ethan didn’t have an easy life either though. He turned in to a weewolf every full moon. It took a toll on his body. It was a full moon two nights ago.

I hope Ethan’s alright. He was sometimes ill after the full moon.

I wished I could help than more. I wished I could take away his pain.

It was impossible though. Once you are bitten you are a were for life. It was a horrible thought Ethan changing.

The pain he went through…

“Alice?” I looked around me. The rest had arrived.

I must have zoned out thinking about Ethan.

“As I was saying,” Dumbledore began, “There is much more security around the school this term. After the ‘Escapade’ last year and last terms attack I have decided that enough is enough. I am clamping down hard on the school this year. As of last night all quiditch matches and hogsmead visits have been re-cancelled. What I say now has to go no further than this room. Sirius Black had escaped from Azkaban.” Mrs Weasley and her husband went deathly pale. Hermione went deathly pale.

“For those who do not know Mr Black killed a large number of muggles and one wizard in broad daylight. I think if he is not caught soon dementors will be posted around the school grounds. I do not want it to come to that though. Alice there are also a few, private matters that I wish to discuss with you in the near future. As you are aware that the teachers are on the train you can stay here or go to your common rooms.  Alice can I please…”

We were interrupted by a large woosh.

Ethan popped out of thin air and landed on the carpeted floor with a sickening thud.

I ran over to him, “Ethan! I have missed you…”

I stopped at the pained look on his face. He sank even further down on to the floor and started sobbing.

Professor Dumbledore strode over, “Ethan my boy! Pleased to see you. Now I see one of the teachers sent you with the emergency port-key. Were you that desperate to get here?” he then noticed that Ethan was sobbing.

“Shee ttoldd them.” Ethan stuttered.

“Who told who what Ethan?” The professor asked sharply but kindly.

“Sharrahh Mmalffoyy”.

“What did Sarah tell someone?”

“Shee ttold evveryyonee”.

“What though?”

Ethan suddenly stopped sobbing. His eyes went cold and hard. He sat up straight. My heart went out to him. It couldn’t reach in time.

He opened his mouth, “Werewolf.”

With that he collapsed back on to the floor with a gut retching scream and his sobbing grew to new levels.

I jumped forward and started hugging him, hoping to hug away his troubles.

“Ahh. Well young Ethan I will not have you leaving the walls of this school. The young gryffindores will probably not mind but I have a feeling that the slytherins will. You shall just act as normal. That’s our best bet. I will personally deal with any problems relating to this. Alright?”

He nodded and stopped sobbing.

I leant forward and whispered in his ear, “Listen to him Ethan, You’ll be fine”.
