Chapter 55 – The Golden Snitch
Alice POV
“Eugh get off me!” Someone was jumping on the end of my bed.
“Wake up Alice! ITS CHRISTMAS!” I opened my eyes. Ginny was sitting on my bed with Hermione hanging over the side of it. We were sleeping in Ginny’s room.
She had went from strength to strength since she came out of St Mungo’s. She was back to being the normal happy Ginny.
“Come on Alice! Me and Gin want to open out presents! We waited until you were awake.” Hermione pulled me up in to a sitting position.
“Presents!” I dove head first into the pile of presents at the foot of my bed. There were loads!
I looked to see Hermione and Ginny excitedly ripping paper of presents. I could also see Hermione writing down who got her what. She was always the sensible one.
I looked to my pile. They were all wrapped up perfectly. They looked beautiful sitting there. Suddenly I was unsure that I wanted to open tem. They looked so good just sitting there.
I picked up the first one. The paper shined in my hand. I edged my finger along the tape…
Then I lost my control. I started a frenzy of ripping of paper. It was fun to see the looks on Hermione and Ginny’s faces when shreds of paper flew over them.
I pulled out a red jumper and slipped it on over some clothes. I gathered up a few things I wanted to take down stairs with me.
“Alice! HERMIONE!” Ron came pounding towards us down the landing.
“Merry Christmas!” I yelled back.
“You to. You got a red jumper? Hermione got pink? I swear my mother gives me maroon just to annoy me.” I looked at Ron’s jumper and laughed.
He absolutely hated the colour maroon; almost as much as corned beef sandwiches.
We walked in to the kitchen to another chorus of merry Christmases. I thanked everyone for my gifts and sat down at the table beside Ethan. I helped myself to some toast and sat back to listen to the conversation at the table.
“But dad, you have to admit that the cauldron regulations need changed!”
Percy was talking to his father. He had a dream about getting in to the ministry when he left school. He felt like he was the one to win a ‘raging’ battle about cauldron thickness.
“Percy! Its Christmas! Stop talking about school or work!” Mrs Weasly scolded him.
“I was just informing father of my plans!”
“I know Perc dear, just enjoy today.”
Fred and George started to pretend to be sick under the table. The table had been enlarged to fit all of us at it at once.
“Boys! Not at the table!” The boys stopped at once.
Ethan got up from the table, “Alice do you want to…”
“Yes, let’s go a walk by the lake. It’s nice there. SNOW!” I looked out the window to see the ground was all white.
Arthur Weasly chuckled at the table, “I wondered how long it would take you to notice”.
I grabbed Ethan’s hand and pulled him towards the door.
My Weasly jumper kept me warm when the cold air hit me.
Ethan pulled me ahead towards the lake. I marvelled in the soft white carpet that covered the planet.
The snow was plain white with no feet marks.
“Alice, Here’s your present.” Ethan pulled out a long box out of his pocket. It was covered in a red ribbon.
I took it in to both hands and pulled off the lid. Inside was a gold chain with a beautiful golden snitch on the end. It shined in the sun. It was beautiful. Even prettier than the wrapped presents earlier.
“It’s ok if you don’t like it Alice, I could exchange it if you want.” I looked in to Ethan's eyes.
“Ethan I love it. It is the nicest thing I have. Thank you!” I kissed Ethan.
He looked at me and grinned. He looked relieved.
“Could you help me put it on Ethan?” Ethan moved towards the box and took the necklace out of it. He unclipped it and put it around my neck.
It sat perfectly on my neck. It looked like it was made to be there.
I pulled out my box from my pocket. It was longer but thinner than Ethan's. I gave it to him and watched him open it.
“Oh Alice! You shouldn’t have!” I looked at Ethan. He looked pleased.
Out of the box he pulled out a gold watch. It had an E shaped centre and a silver clasp.
“Do you like it?”
“Alice – I love it.”
I smiled and hugged Ethan. This day was getting even better.
What a way to spend Christmas day – with the people that you love.
“INCOMING!” Fred ran over and stuck a snowball down my back.
“AAAA! Fred YOU ARE SO DEAD!” That boy knew how to spoil a good moment.
I grabbed Ethan's hand and pulled him towards the Wesley’s.
“Alice! ETHAN! Come here!” Ron, Hermione and Ginny were hiding behind a snow wall.
“They all ganged up on us,” Ginny explained, “So we’re going to need all the help we can get”.
Hermione saw the chain around my neck. “OHH! Is that what Ethan got you?”
I showed her the front of it. ,”Alice! That is really nice.”
“Thanks Hermione.” I hugged my best friend.
“Sorry to break up a soppy moment girl’s but we have a snow war to win!” Ron exclaimed.
Ginny cast a death glare at her brother, “Can anybody please tell me why I got a monster for a brother? It is so unfair!”
“Well Gin at least you’re getting another one.” I pointed out.
Ginny's face lit up at the mention of the baby. “I am! I think I should kill of Ron too.”
I laughed at my friends humour. Ginny could be a funny little devil at times.
We stood up and prepared for battle. I picked a snow ball up from the ground.
“Ready,” Ron called out, “Aim… FIRE!”
“Really Kids! I am surprised you didn’t all get the cold!” The sun had set over the burrow and we had just all got changed and warmed up by the fire. Now we were drinking hot chocolate.
I had to laugh at Mrs Weasly. She eventually gave up trying to be stern and started laughing herself.
“What are you kids driving me to? You are going to drive me nuts!"
