MATHEMATICIANS CALL THEM TWIN PRIMES. But Enola called them twin flames. They are pairs of prime numbers that are close to one another, almost neighbors, but between them there is always an even number that prevents them from really touching.

Numbers like eleven and thirteen, seventeen and nineteen. If you have the patience to go on counting, you discover that these pairs gradually become rarer. You encounter increasingly isolated primes, lost in that silent, measured space made only of numbers and you become aware of the distressing sense that the pairs encountered up until that point were an accidental fact, that their true fate is to remain alone. Then, just when you're about to surrender, when you no longer have any desire to go on counting, you come across another pair of twins, clutching onto one another. And that is what Caroline Forbes was to Enola Gilbert. Her twin flame. So conversations like these were never fun.

"So Tyler just confessed his feelings for you and dipped?" Enola quirked a brow.

Enola had left the lake house to Elena and Stefan for the rest of the weekend. She was eager to get home after what had happened the previous night. She arrived back in Mystic Falls during the late night hours but she wasn't ready to go home. Caroline welcomed her with open arms. They binge watched their favorite shows and movies together before falling asleep on the couch, curled up next to one another. It was a night the both of them desperately needed.

"Pretty much," Caroline sighed.

"Looks like I have got more competition," Enola teased, earning a glare in return. "Relax. Kidding." She rolled onto her stomach before asking the million dollar question. "What did you say?"

"Nothing," Caroline shrugged. "I'm still holding out for Matt."

"Who is currently mad at you," Enola nodded. "Why is he mad at you again?"

"Jules kidnapped me the night when I was supposed to be meeting up with him and I lied and said I was with Bonnie, but Bonnie was at the Grill where he was currently working," Caroline explained.

"Right, and what was he doing on his phone in the middle of his shift?" Enola wondered.

"I didn't exactly get the chance to ask because he was too busy storming away from me in a fit of rage," Caroline huffed.

"I still don't get why you want him. He treats you like shit." Enola pointed out.

"He does not—" Caroline was interrupted by the shrill cry of a cell phone.
