WE YEARN FOR CONNECTION AND YET WE ISOLATE OURSELVES. We seek love but fear loss. We dream for someday instead of actually trying for today. We want change but don't want to change. We over consume then wonder why there is no space to create. We love the ocean but buy plastic. We advocate for education then bury our student loans. We want health but for a price. We believe in equality but struggle to bridge the gap between inequality. We ask for better leaders but never think to lead ourselves. We wish for a better world but not at the cost of comfort and convenience.

There is a disconnect here. And it is not any one person's fault. The world is made up of both beauty and brokenness. Most of the time, our hearts are in the right place. The problem is how overwhelming it all seems, but change is made up of small moments. Change happens when we have been hurt, but choose not to act on our hurt. Change happens when we see someone who seems upset, and ask how we can support them. Change happens when we don't pretend to have all of the answers, but are willing to ask the uncomfortable questions. The truth is, if we knew the whole story behind everyone's actions, we would see why they are the way they are. But unfortunately, that is no excuse. Your actions still have consequences. There was no escaping that.

Just like Damon could not escape the wrath of Enola. Trying to earn her forgiveness would prove to be a fruitless mission. So he decided to focus on something else. Something achievable. He still had every intention of annoying her until she inevitably forgave him. But this took precedence. Especially with everything else going on. They needed to be prepared for new threats. And so he would solve the mystery of the Lockwood family even if it was the last thing he would do.

"Thanks for coming, Ric. Can I get you something to drink? Coffee? Bourbon? Bourbon in your coffee?" Damon questioned as he guided Alaric into the living room where Enola waited with Stefan and Elena.

"Elena mentioned you needed my help," Alaric said, taking a seat on the couch across from the trio.

"Yeah," Stefan nodded. "We were hoping you could shed some light on the Lockwood family."

"Now, why would I know anything about the Lockwoods?" Alaric frowned in confusion.

"Well, you wouldn't," Damon shrugged, standing over by the fireplace. "But your dead, not dead vampire wife might."

"Isobel's research, from when you guys were at Duke together." Elena began.

"You said that she had spent years researching this town," Enola finished.
