❝ one is never too old to participate in the act of pettiness. ❞

THE RIGHT ONE WILL KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH ALL OF YOU. They will not judge you for your past regrets or reprimand you for doing something wrong. They will be honest with you. They will pull you up on your mistakes and support you as you correct them. They will hold your hand tight as you learn all the crucial lessons that life hands you down. They will let you heal in your time. They will appreciate your rough edges without hoping to change you. They will cherish the heart between your ribs, soft and bubbling with warm love, and they will do their best to tend to it.
The right one will try to protect you as much as they can, but they will know that most of the battles in your life are ones that you need to fight alone. They will give you space when you need it, as well as welcome you into theirs. They won't push you away, or make you feel bad for being with yourself for a little while. They will push you to make time for yourself. They will encourage you to grow, heal and become comfortable within your skin.
The right one will know what to do with all of you. Not just the parts they like and not just the outer layers filled with light hearted moments and banter and sunlight. But the darkness as well. The muggy parts. The jagged pieces. The hurt. The trauma. Everything. The right one will love every ounce of you—showing you that love isn't something that you have to earn, it never was to begin with. Enola could only hope that Caroline was the right one. But you never had to hope for the right one to be the right one. You just know. And the knowing is the hardest part.
"We will say that Mikael followed Elena in here," Stefan began, motioning around the library. "He tried to grab her so he could use her as bait."
"And you what? Vervained him?" Enola rose a perfectly sculpted brow as she lazily threw her legs over the arm of the chair she sat on with her phone in hand, waiting for an incoming text from Caroline that would hopefully be asking about homecoming plans.
"No. We vervained him." Damon corrected. "The guy is an Original. We have to make it realistic."
"Okay. Fine. We vervained him." Stefan huffed. "And in the process we discovered that he had a dagger."
"Which he planned to use on Rebekah," Elena nodded along. "But instead—"
"Enola caught him by surprise and drove it through his heart because he didn't know that two doppelgängers existed," Stefan finished.
"And what happens when he asks to see Mikaels body?" Enola inquired pessimistically.
"Good point," Damon nodded. "You, my brother, have been compelled to do what Klaus says. So if the idea is to lure him back here and kill him, the last thing we need is you getting tripped up and tongue tied."
