❝ death happens. we come, we go. ❞

IT IS QUITE STRANGE. We have these deep lingering fears about ourselves and the people that we love. Yet we walk around, talk to people, eat and drink. We manage to function. The feelings are deep and real when they should really paralyze us. How is it that we can survive them—at least for a little while? We drive a car, we teach a class. How is it that no one sees how deeply afraid we are, last night, this morning?
Is it something we all hide from each other by mutual consent? Or do we share the same secret without knowing it? Enola was beginning to think the latter. She surmised that they were all equally afraid of what came next. Though she didn't understand. Life was full of surprises. Instead of being scared, they should be thrilled. Though she couldn't exactly say that the situation she currently found herself in was at all thrilling. Watching someone die a slow, agonizing death hardly was. She knew this is what it meant to be human, but she wished that it was easier. She wished that you didn't have to suffer. But her wishes rarely came true.
"How bad is it?"
"Better,"
"Horrible,"
Looks like the rumors were true; a werewolf bite can kill a vampire. Rose was living proof despite how much Damon denied it. While the Gilbert twins had been under house arrest, Damon had been pissing off the wrong people. Jules. She had come into town looking for Mason, who was currently dead. So Damon and Alaric stupidly took it upon themselves to confront her. Things ended horribly with her showing up at the Salvatore Boarding House with the intention of killing Damon, only Rose got in the way of that and now here they were. Staring at an inflamed werewolf bite.
"At least one of you is being honest," Rose chuckled in amusement.
"Elena!" Damon quickly changed the subject. "Where is Stefan?"
"He left," Elena said, stopping just outside the doorway. "Speaking of . . . I need you to talk to him. He's convinced that he has to find Isobel. But I think that's going to upset Elijah."
"No can do. I'm with Stefan on this one." Damon decided. "But if you and Enola could play nurse for a little while—"
"It's not necessary." Rose interrupted.
"It is necessary," Damon scoffed. "Elena is a do-gooder and Enola is there. But they make a pretty good team!"
