CHAPTER 47: NOT ALL MONSTERS DO MONSTROUS THINGS
❝ stop using your vampirism as an excuse to be a horrible person. ❞

IT IS QUITE SIMPLE: nothing that is meant for you will ever get away. Enola realized this lesson too late in life. When she finally did, she decided to love deeply and without the need to possess or own the objects of her love; let beautiful connections pass through her without attachment, slam her heart into the people and the places and the things that ignite something deep inside of her soul and the right things will always stay.
But if that were true, why did Enola Gilbert keep drifting further and further away from Damon Salvatore. He leaned against the kitchen counter as she laughed a little too hard at some stupid joke being told by a certain blonde. They were brewing chili together like some sort of happy couple. They had been spending a considerable amount of time together. Which wasn't strange because they had always been close as best friends. But have they always been so touchy? The sight was enough to raise suspicion immediately.
"I just don't know why you wanna bring chili to a potluck. Everybody brings chili." Damon frowned, eyes flickering towards the doorway when someone else joined them. "Hey, Ric."
"What time did Elena say we were going to the Lockwood party?" Enola wondered, glancing over her shoulder at the man who had just entered.
"I don't know," Alaric confessed, leaning lazily against the counter. "I still don't know if I'm gonna go. Those founder parties aren't really my thing."
"Show up, there is gonna be nine other people that brought chili." Damon chirped.
"It's an old family recipe," Caroline glared.
"Then why don't you make it at your old family home?" Damon shot back. "You know that you don't actually live here, right?"
"I do," Caroline nodded. "Do you?
"Why are you here, Damon?" Alaric questioned in confusion.
"So he can pine after Enola from across the room," Caroline muttered bitterly.
"Do you know how easy it would be to just rip that pretty little head off your body?" Damon glowered.
"You think I'm pretty?" Caroline smirked.
"I am so close to—"
"Enough. You two have been at it all morning." Enola groaned. "Aren't you guys tired of all this fighting?"
