CHAPTER 65: UNFINISHED BUSINESS
❝ why does everyone i love die? ❞

THERE ARE CERTAIN PEOPLE THAT COME INTO YOUR LIFE AND LEAVE A MARK. The ones that, for whatever reason, are as much a part of you as your own soul. Their place in your heart is tender, a bruise of longing, a pulse of unfinished business. Just hearing their name pushes and pulls at you in a hundred different ways and when you try to define those hundred different ways—describe them even to yourself—words are useless. If you had a lifetime to talk there would still be things left unsaid. That is how Enola felt when she found Elena half dead that morning.
"She is going to be just fine. She got a little banged up today and hit her head." Meredith explained as they stood outside the hospital room that hid Elena away from the world. "It was just a slight concussion. Nothing to worry about."
"She collapsed," Enola pointed out. "There was blood."
"She is okay," Meredith reassured. "Is there anyone you guys want to call?"
"Yeah," Enola muttered.
"Thank you," Jeremy nodded as the doctor briskly walked away. When they were left alone, Jeremy turned to Enola. "I'm going to grab something out of the vending machine. Do you want something?"
"Skittles please," Enola sighed, watching Jeremy walk away before pulling out a phone to dial Stefan. She was surprised when he answered on the first ring. "Don't freak out or anything, but Elena collapsed this morning so I took her to the hospital."
"You did what?" It was Damon who spoke.
"I took her to the hospital," Enola repeated. "That is what you do when someone you love is sick."
"Not when you have a parade of vampires at your disposal," Damon rebutted.
"Every remaining Original is going to want Elena dead to stop Alaric. She is a sitting duck in there." Stefan pointed out.
"Meredith wants to keep her here for observation," Enola informed. "What do you guys want me to do?"

Enola stumbled through the front door with Elena, Jeremy, Matt, and Caroline. She was pleasantly surprised to find their friends in the waiting room. They smiled upon taking note of the Gilbert siblings before offering their help. She would rather die than admit it, but she really appreciated it. She had always struggled with asking for help even when she needed it most.
