GUILT IS THE WORST DEMON TO BEAR. It strangles you from the inside of your body. It is put into the air and waits for you to breathe, tries to tailor the blame until it looks like it fits you, turns the story into a gymnast and convinces it to flip. It rewinds the movie, excavates the plot, digs out your patience, makes itself the narrator and the hero. It sketches you as the antagonist and suddenly its transgressions become deleted scenes. It blames you. And that is how the wolf cries boy. Or in this case; girl.

Enola felt guilty. She hadn't told a single soul about what she had done. She didn't plan to. Especially after Klaus went on a killing spree, not only killing his twelve hybrids, but Carol Lockwood as well after he couldn't find Tyler. She wanted to hide. So she made the drive up to her family cabin where Damon and Matt were training Jeremy in vampire hunting. She wasn't ready to face all of her problems. Not yet. But as it turns out, problems have a way of finding her no matter what.

"Elena?"

Enola glanced over to Damon. They hadn't spoken since the Miss Mystic Falls pageant. They had nothing to talk about then. Especially after their fight. They never really got the chance with problems surrounding them from every corner. Now here they were, in the middle of nowhere, with nothing to do but talk. All they really did, however, was watch Jeremy and Matt spar from afar. Until he got yet another call that he let go straight to voicemail because he didn't want to talk. Especially not to Elena.

"Yup," Damon muttered shortly.

"You can't avoid her forever," Enola grumbled.

"Says the girl who has spent the past week avoiding me," Damon scoffed.

"I haven't been avoiding you," Enola defended.

"Then what do you call it?" Damon wondered.

"I call it not picking a fight," Enola answered.

"If you're so worried about us fighting, then why are you here?" Damon questioned.

Enola turned to Jeremy. He wore a bright smile that made her feel good. She was just glad that he was happy. It had been a while since she had seen his smile. It wasn't the same as it used to be, but it was certainly an improvement. She wanted him to keep improving. She wanted to be there when he did.

"For him," Enola breathed. "I'm here for my brother."

"Go ahead. Make a move." Jeremy taunted.

"I drove all the way up here so I could be your wingman, not kick your ass." Matt scoffed.
