*Y/N's POV*
The next couple of days had gone by really fast. But today was the day all of us would figure out which students actually were to compete in the Triwizard Tournament. I was sitting with Ginny and Hermione as we waited for the competitors to be announced. I still hadn't talked to Fred and was barely speaking with George since they were always together. They sat on the far end of the table, with Angelina. As if things couldn't get worse, she was flirting with Fred. And I wasn't sure if it was my frustration but I could've swore she was doing it just to rile me up. Cedric waved to me as he took his seats with some of the other Hufflepuffs. I awkwardly waved back, but I could feel eyes searing into the back of my head as I did so.
"He's staring at you," Hermione whispered over to me, I gave her a puzzled look, "Fred," she nodded over to the twins and Angelina.
"Just ignore him, I don't want to do this right now," I kept my eyes fixated at the front of the Hall as Dumbledore took the stage.
"Sit down please," Dumbledore started, "Now the moment you've all been waiting for! The Champions Selection!" Dumbledore dimmed all the fires surrounding the Hall before approaching the Goblet. The flame turned red, spitting a piece of dark parchment out, Dumbledore catching it, "The Durmstrang Champion is Viktor Krum!"
Everyone cheered as Krum made his way over to Dumbledore, shaking his hand and making his way out of the Hall. The flame turned red once again, spitting out a dainty blue piece of parchment.
"The Champion for Beauxbatons is Fleur Delacour!"Dumbledore announced, the blonde Veela girl stood up proudly, shaking Dumbledore's hand before going the same direction as Viktor Krum. The last piece of parchment was thrown out, "The Hogwarts Champion!" Dumbledore announced, "Cedric Diggory!"
I smiled, clapping along with everyone else. I saw Fred sneering slightly as he clapped along with everyone. Cedric sent me a wink before following suit with the other champions.
"Excellent! We now have our three champions! But in the end, only one will go down in history. Only one will hoist this chalice of champions, this vessel of victory. The Triwizard Cup!" Barty Crouch brought uncovered the chalice he had brought in, all of us in awe of the gleaming chalice.
We all began cheering before Professor Snape stopped clapping and looked over at the Goblet of Fire, a wary expression on his face. The flames turned that vibrant red once again as all our attention shifted to it, another piece of parchment fluttering out, Dumbledore catching it, "Harry Potter," he mumbled. We all looked around, Harry sitting there just as dumbfounded as the rest of us, "Harry Potter?" Harry sat back down, trying not to draw any attention to himself, "HARRY POTTER!" Dumbledore's voice erupted.
"Go on, Harry," Hermione tried to nudge him, "Harry for goodness sake," she made him stand up, pushing him up to the front.
"W-what? How's that possible?" I muttered to Ginny.
"I-I don't know. It shouldn't be," she whispered back.
I could see Ron glaring from my peripheral vision and that's when I heard the rest of the school jeering, calling Harry a cheat and saying he rigged it all. Everyone's eyes followed him as he walked worriedly to the back where the rest of the champions were. All of us looked around, worrying for Harry now more than anything.
"Hey," I hit Ron's leg, "Did he say anything to you about this?"
"No, I don't understand why he wouldn't tell me. I would've entered too if I knew there was a way around it," Ron scoffed.
"You don't actually think he entered deliberately, do you?" I raised my eyebrow at him. Ron didn't answer, "Ron! He's only fourteen, for goodness sake, he couldn't have possibly done that. The twins are sixth years and they couldn't even figure out a way around it."
"Yeah, whatever," Ron rolled his eyes before dispersing with the rest of the crowd.
"Talk to him please," I looked over at Hermione who simply nodded and followed behind Ron. I took a deep breath, running my hands frustratedly through my hair and plopping back down onto my seat. As if I needed another thing to worry about.
*FRED'S POV*
I saw her sitting there, her head in her hands. She was worried, about Harry, I presumed. Y/N loved to worry about everyone else, she was pretty much a big sister to all of the younger Gryffindors. I wanted to talk to her, I did but we hadn't spoken in weeks, would she even want to speak with me? I decided to walk over, telling George and Angelina, who I needed an excuse to get away from, that I had forgotten something.
"Lestrange?" I approached her, softly.
Her head shot up, "Oh, hi Fred. Finally talking to me, are you?"
"I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to ignore you," I took a seat next to her, "I guess I was just sort of angry about the whole Diggory asking you out and it just got the better of me."
She didn't say anything before she chuckled lightly, "Fred Weasley are you admitting to being jealous? And of a Hufflepuff at that."
I sneered before chucking as well, "I guess I was. Look, Lestrange, I like you. Like, a lot." I finally fessed up. Again, she was silent as I bit my lip anxiously before she turned to look at me.
"I like you too, you idiot," she shoved me playfully, "Took you long enough to realize it."
"If I'm being honest, I thought you fancied George,"
"What? Ew! I could never like George, are you barking?" she laughed. God, I loved her laugh and her smile. I could admire her all day. "Fred," she snapped her fingers in front of my face, "You alright there?"
"Fine, fine. I just, am genuinely surprised, if I'm being honest,"
"Me too, but, it's a good surprised, don't you think?" her hand squeezed my thigh. I stiffened a bit underneath her touch, blushing, "Guess I should go ahead and tell Diggory not this time."
"I think that's one of the best ideas you've ever had, Lestrange," I smirked.
"Watch yourself, Weasley," she moved her hand further up my thigh, "You have no idea what I'm capable of," she whispered, her breath tickling my neck, "Now, I'll see you later. I can see you're quite excited," she eyed down at the slightly harden bulge in my pants, my hands quickly moving to cover it. "I would help you with that but I've got a boy to reject so." Y/N chuckled, smirking, "Later, Freddie," she kissed my cheek before disappearing around the corner. I sat there for a moment, smiling to myself. I finally told her. And now I could finally tell everyone else.
*Y/N's POV*
I couldn't believe it, Fred Weasley had actually admitted feelings for me! A Lestrange and a Weasley who would've thought? I had practically skipped away, feeling more confident than I usually did as I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. I had to find Hermione! And Ginny! Someone else needed to know.
*I know I said this was a slow burn and trust me it is. I'll also try to remember to also put an 18+ warning for rather steamy chapters. This book is a long-haul type thing FYI. Y/N and Fred have a lot more ahead of them. Happy readings!
