Ah yes coffee shop AUs. We love those ones 😌🤚

Annabeth's POV

I couldn't stand school anymore. I always had good grades but college was another level. There was this cute coffee shop down the street from my dorm. The only bad thing was that the employe at the cash register was really rude. He had blonde hair and his name tag read "Luke" thats why I never go there for coffee. Today I wasn't in the mood to drive so I ended up having to go down the street.

I walked in and the bell on the door rang. I didn't see anyone at the register and for a second I was very confused. Usually Luke would be there screaming at people. I heard a voice coming from behind the counter.

"I got this one!" The voice yelled.

A guy with black messy hair and sea green eyes stepped up to the counter. His focus was on the ground. I walked up and said hello.

"Hey! What can I get for you today?" He asked looking up. His emotion just faded and he started at me for a few seconds. He shook his head and laughed a little. "Sorry. Um what can I get for you?"

He looked flustered and I found it cute how he laughed it off. Maybe I should come here more often now that this guy is doing Luke's old job.

"I'll have a vanilla latte. Thanks..." I read his name tag, "Percy. Your way nicer than the other jerk who worked here." He smiled at the compliment.

"Luke? Yeah that guy got fired. I'm usually in the back but I have seen you here a couple times before."

He took my order and I paid him. After I sat down on one of the grey couches they had and started my homework. I waited for them to call my name so I could get my drink, but Percy came to me. A dark shadow covered my notes and I looked up.

"Here is a vanilla latte for Miss Annabeth." He handed me my drink and the cup was warm even through the thin piece of circular cardboard lining it.

"Thanks. Are you on break or something?" I asked taking a sip from my drink.

"Yep. So whats a California girl like you doing out here in the east coast?" He raised an eyebrow.

"How did you know I was from California? And I just started going to college here. OH MY-!" I didn't even have time to finish.  I held the drink from the top for a split second and it fell to the floor and all over my notebooks. The latte splattered on the floor.

"I'm so sorry!" I grabbed a napkin from the table and instantly started to wipe it up. It had poured all over my binder and project notes. If I didn't  fail a class before I am definitely failing now.

"It's okay." Percy said calmly he took a towel out of his apron pocket.

I was freaking out. I couldn't afford to fail a class, my dad would kill me. Tears formed from my eyes and I started got sniffle. Don't you dare cry Annabeth. Not in front of Percy.

"Hey, don't worry, I'm sure your notes are okay." He rubbed my back.

"That was my entire semester project! It's due on Monday! Now its covered in coffee and- There is no way I can redo all this. My dyslexia and ADHD can not do all of this again!" At this point I was breaking down and the tears came out. Percy looked at me sympathetically.

"Annabeth. Just calm down. Maybe I can help you. What was your project about?" He wiped the floor with the towel that soaked everything up.

"Greek Architecture. The Parthenon specifically." My breathing started to get calmer. I loved architecture. It was my entire life in a nutshell. The way things are built and how they function was always fascinating to me.

"Oh thats cool! I'm all into Greece and stuff. The gods are the coolest, expect they were also total jerks." I laughed at his statement.

"Except Athena was pretty wise. I mean she is the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy. Thats why she is the best." I picked up my binder that was dripping.

"Here how about you come here tomorrow and over the weekend we can work on it." Percy suggested. He was optimistic meanwhile I'm over here looking like a mess.

I thought for a couple seconds. "Sure. That wouldn't be so bad. Sorry for being such a klutz." I apologized. I felt so terrible. This guy was super nice and I completely messed everything up.

"Don't worry about it. I think its cute." He smirked. He helped me pack up my stuff but I did need to throw away my project. There was no way I could save it. I started to leave when he called my name.

"Wait Annabeth! Can I have your number?" I smiled. I took out a sharpie and wrote it down on a piece of paper. I folded it and handed the paper to him. His eyes shimmered.

"Here. I'll see you tomorrow Percy. Thanks for all your help."

"Anytime." He said waving. I stepped outside and as soon as I did I could feel the heat on my cheeks. I looked back while walking and Percy was jumping up and down, looking extremely happy. Maybe messing up my project would lead to some better things......
