Annabeth POV

I refused. I refused to take a step into that gym. It was a middle school dance and I was already dragged here by Piper and Hazel, some of my friends. The dance wasn't fancy. All of us were in jeans and t-shirts. The gym was decked out in fairy lights and it was just a bunch of chaos. Eventually I gave in and I sat down on the bleachers while Piper and Hazel went to go grab snacks. My eyes scanned over who was here, some eighth grades, some tiny sixth graders, and my grade the seventh graders. I looked over the gym and spotted Percy. We were best friends till sixth grade where we kinda found our own friend groups.

"C'mon Annabeth! It's a dance! SO you have to dance!" Piper pulled me off the bleachers and we started screaming song lyrics at the top of our lungs.

"Alright now we're gonna slow it down just a bit." The DJ lowered down the volume and switched on slow music. I really hated this part of dances. It always got awkward, especially when someone gets shut down asking someone else to dance. Piper, Hazel, and I kinda just stood there for a bit watching the older kids slow dance.

"Piper do you wanna-?" Jason, one of Percy's friends walked up to Piper and before he could finish she instantly nodded yes. Hazel got asked by Frank so now it was just me standing alone in the middle of the gym.

"Hey." A familiar voice said from behind me.

"Hey Seaweed Brain." I smiled.

"I see we are still doing nicknames Wise Girl." He smirked and my stomach churned with butterflies. His smile was really cute. I mean he was cute in general. He had messy black hair and enchanting sea green eyes. We watched our friends dancing and then he looked at me.

"Do you wanna dance? You don't have to say yes because like I don't really care but you know..." He started talking fast and rambling.

"I would love to." I responded. He flashed another grin and I placed my arms on his shoulders. He placed his on my waist and we shuffled our feet to the music. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Piper quietly squealing while looking at me and Percy. I stuck my tongue out at her and put my focus back on him. He looked so nervous, "I don't bite Percy" I said. He just cleared his throat and nodded.

When the song finished I kinda wished it lasted longer. We talked about random things like our families, friends, and he had some pretty stuopid jokes. Not to mention some cheesy pick up lines.

4 years later

"Piper! I already said I don't want to go!" I groaned

"You're gonna miss prom! What kind of senior are you!"

"A senior who doesn't want to go to prom." I rolled my eyes and tried to continue reading my book. Piper sat on my bed and tore the book away from my hands.

"Give it back!" I reached for it but she hid it behind her back. "Besides If I did want to go I don't have a dress."

"Oh sweet Annabeth. Sweet, sweet, innocent Annabeth." She patted my head and I looked at her strangely. "I bought you one despit your protesting."

She exited my room and came back with a knee length dress. It was puffy at the skirt but not too puffy and had a sweetheart neckline with straps.

"How did you-" I started. The dress was beautiful and complimented my stormy grey eyes.

"I have my ways."

When we arrived I had an instant flashback to my 7th grade dance. The only differences was that everyone was in dresses or suits and the gym of Goode was better decorated. Plus I wasn't fighting anyone because I didn't want to be there. Piper was instantly taken away by Jason and I decided to get some punch.

"Never thought I'd ever see you in a dress Wise Girl." Percy said from behind me.

"It was all Piper and you will never see me in a dress ever again."

"Not even for your wedding day?"

"You got something to say to me Seaweed Brain?" I raised an eyebrow at him.

"You'd kick my butt." He laughed.

"You know I'd kick you butt." We both laughed and he held out his hand.

"May I have this dance?" He asked with a British accent.

"Why you may kind sir." I followed with the accent and he whirled me onto the dance floor.

We danced for a long time just enjoying each other's company. My feet finally started to hurt and we sat at a table with our friends.

After the dance I rode home with Percy.

"I had fun." He said turning down the radio.

"Me too. We should really hang out more."

"Oh I see. Real smooth Chase. I see you trying to ask me out." I rolled my eyes at him. "Too bad I'm gonna beat you to it. Do you wanna go to the movies tomorrow? Like a date?"

"I would love to." I said it the exact same way thirteen year old me did at the dance. His eyes lit up and he gave me a bright smile.
