It had been 2 years since that awful day. And not a day goes by I don't think about my parents. I have nightmares every night, Billy spends more time in my room then he does his own.

He's my only comfort.

I found out that day that Bill had kept in touch with Granny all those years. He called her every day.

She used to tell us stories about demons, vampires and witches (gave me nightmares for weeks). But she started to tell my parents how we must protect ourselves from them and what to do.

My dad thought she had lost her mind. He wanted to section her as she truly believed them to be a threat.

My mum wouldn't have it, she refused to put her own mother in a padded cell. So they agreed she would see a psychiatrist.
But granny knew what would happen and turned the table on my dad - she told the shrink how she used to tell her grandkids stories because they liked them and that my dad wasn't happy about it.

Of course she didn't believe in demons of any kind.

After 6 sessions she was released from the shrink with no worries about her mental health. So my dad forbid any contact with her.

Billy was so much older than me and believed what she was saying. She taught him what she could over the phone which is why we made it out of our village alive.

The day after we left it was announced there was a huge 'gas leak' which resulted in most of the village being burned down with most of the residents in their beds.

But we knew what really happened.

The demons were covering their tracks.

The first 12 months of being with granny were the hardest. I missed my parents and all my friends back home.

I cried. A lot.

We had to pretend we never existed so our dad wouldn't find us. So we couldn't communicate with anyone we knew from before.
Turns out my granny was the head of a world wide vampire hunting team. And her farm was actually a training ground where her team lived and trained.

Each individual on the team had been directly effected by them. I didn't know this but my Grandad died at the hand of one of the beasts. My Granny threw a bottle of vodka at it and set it alight to save herself and her unborn baby. Even now she complains that 'she wasted a good bottle of voddy on that garbage'.

Once a human has been turned they keep their memories which is why they are so incredibly dangerous to their loved ones.

Granny thinks mum wouldn't have known what dad had become which is why she let her guard down and he ended up getting close enough to kill her.
If only she listened to her mother!

Billy took it the hardest, he thought if he wasn't playing on his x-box he would've heard quick enough to kill them before they got to my mum.

Granny sympathises with him but she knows he wouldn't have been able to take down 3 vamps on his own. So in her eyes the computer games he was always moaned at for playing so late into the night actually saved us both.

And she wouldn't have it any other way.
