Chapter 13

Dez always told me that we weren't to tell anyone who didn't know about vamps of their existence. We didn't want to effect the natural balance.

Since I found the farm empty almost 2 years ago I have been blindly searching this state for my brother. Going nest to nest to find him. He shouldn't have turned thanks to the serum Meredith and I created but if he was dead he'd have been at the farm. I needed answers.

I looked at Caelan and decided to tell him. He clearly knew about vamps and had a connection with the wolves.  He had such a strong blue aura surrounding him, he was very loyal and very trustworthy. And he fed me. Bonus points for that.

"I belong to a group of vampire hunters. We are trained in hand to hand combat, weapons and we are taught all we need to know about vamps and how to kill them. I've been hopping from town to town killing what I can. I was passing through the forest to go to the next town. I heard the screams and followed them here, that's it".

"How many vampire hunters are there?" He asked curiously

"A lot" I replied. "How do you connect with the wolves of the forest? I've never seen any wild animal fight for humans before." I asked curiously.

He sat back in his chair. "You know all about vampires, what other creatures have you been taught about?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Erm none" I replied. I have no idea where this conversation is going.

Caelan stood up and held his hand out to me.

I took it.

I have no idea why.

We walked out of the office and into the garden, still holding hands, his hand was so hot.

"Centuries ago a wolf was deserted by its pack, wolves without packs don't usually last too long on their own out in the wild. He walked around the outskirts of a village and saw a man and woman kissing and holding hands. They had 2 small children running around them. He enjoyed watching the humans. One day he was so hungry he could barely walk anymore. He was lying in the woods and a beautiful young lady walked by. She seen the wolf and realised he was weak and not a threat so she sat down and fed him the food that she had in her basket. The next few days she would come to the woods and keep feeding him. She told him about her day and told him her woes. She was being forced to marry someone she didn't love and she was really upset about it. After she left for home. The wolf howled at the moon. His heart was breaking for her. He lay on his paws and the moon goddess appeared. She asked what was wrong with him and he told her. She told the wolf that she could turn him into a human if he wanted her to, but during the full moon when the moon is at its most powerful then he will turn back into a wolf until the luna cycle was over. He agreed as he wanted to be with his beautiful young lady. He found her the next day in the village. They spoke for hours and fell in love. The wolf spoke to her father and asked for permission to marry his daughter. The father agreed and they were soon wed. During the full moon he would tell his wife he had to take a trip to a nearby town to take care of some business. This happened every month. She worried that he was being unfaithful to her so she followed him and witnessed as he change from man to wolf. The same wolf she had fed in the woods Months before. She was afraid and ran deeper into the wood, the wolfs old pack were there and they weren't as friendly. The wolf came out of the shadows and protected his love. He was badly hurt. She lay on the ground next to him. The next morning she awoke to the wolf turning back into a man. He was dying of his wounds. He survived the day and told his wife she was to go home. But she didn't want to leave him. He told her he was going to change again and that she should stay at home. The moon goddess watched the whole thing and was really proud of what the wolf had done. That night the wolf didn't turn back. The goddess went to see him. She told him how proud she was. She healed his wounds and removed the spell from him. She said he would be able to turn back whenever he wanted. His act of bravery was being rewarded. He ran home feeling stronger and fitter then before. He told his wife what had happened and she was so happy. That night she fell pregnant and the mans abilities were passed down. The children of the moon have the ability to be both man and beast".

Oh.
"Wow, now that is definitely a story for the grandkids" I said.
We sat down on the grass.
Caelans hand never let go of mine. I didn't mind. I felt weirdly safe being with him.

"We don't usually expose ourselves to others Morgan" Caelan said.
"I should hope not" I whispered "there's kids around"
Caelan laughed a proper belly laugh. "I should reword that shouldn't i" he laughed I nodded while chuckling

"We don't usually expose our secret to humans is what I meant. We have to be careful not to disturb the natural order".
My face must've looked shocked, did he just repeat Dez's words to me?
"Hold on, did you just say humans?"

Bobby came jogging over
"You wanted to see me Alpha" he bowed to Caelan.
"Yes Bobby I would like you to shift for Morgan, show her your wolf" "of course alpha"

Bobby started to remove his clothes.
"whoa whoa whoa what's going on here" I said "Auditions for the full monty" Caelan was still holding my hand.

"I don't want to ruin my clothes" Bobby smirked at me then his body started to change.
Right in front of me.
He became a wolf.
Not just any wolf, my new pal Buddy. "What the fff, holy shit, that's amazing!"

I held my arms out and Bobby/Buddy ran into them and I fussed him then he licked my face "ewww mate that's disgusting" I giggled.
Then a growl came from Caelan. Bobby retreated with his head bowed. Grabbed his clothes in his mouth then ran off.

"What was that for? You told him to do that, you know that right?" I scolded him.

"Why did you call him mate?" He was seething.
"Seriously all that because I called him mate? Mate means friend where I'm from. What's the big deal?" I shot back at him.

He sat us back down and took my hand, I was about to tell him where to stick his hand when he started speaking.

"the moon goddess rewards each of her children a mate. Another soul who we will be linked to for the rest of our lives. Our other halves if you like. They make each other stronger. Ones weakness is the others strength, a love like no other". He looked longingly into the distance.

"Where's your mate Caelan?" I asked softly.
"We usually find our mates when we turn 18, some bonds are so strong they can surface as early as 16, I'm 26 and never found my mate." He said sadly

"Sucks to be you pal" I said as sympathetically As I could.

"Don't feel sorry for me Morgan, I've done some really bad things in the past to keep my pack safe. It's probably why I haven't been rewarded with a mate".

We talked for a while, he's so easy to talk to. He made me feel safe. Like I was at home with my parents and Billy, before monsters from my nightmares ruined it.

I didn't feel judged when I told him about my connection with nature and how I'd always dreamed of being a vet when I was little.
He told me he was pretty much a total dick head before he came alpha. Slept around and fought a lot. I know the feeling very well.
I could stare into his beautiful green eyes for hours. What am I saying.
