I picked at my dinner with Adam. I only took a few small bites and I know he noticed because he kept encouraging me to finish my food. He stopped when I glared at him. I felt bad about these notes and I just wanted the whole ordeal over with.
Rocky's parents came over to let me know they were going to head home but that I could stay a little while longer. Before they left, I asked if Kimberly and Aisha could spend the night. They had told me yes, so I knew I had to go and find Kim to let her know. Adam followed me into the Youth Center, where we saw our friends all sitting on the stage. They were all laughing about something when we walked over to them. Adam hopped up on the stage and sat on the edge with his legs hanging over the edge. I walked up the stairs like a normal person and then sat down next to Kimberly. The only person that wasn't there was Aisha, which was a little weird to me because normally if everyone else was there, she would be too.
"I talked to Rocky's parents and they said you guys can spend the night." I told Kimberly when she looked at me.
"Yay! Oh, I talked to Aisha by the way and she's actually going to be out of town until the end of the week. One of her family members passed away. I'm going to send her flowers. Maybe tomorrow we can go pick them out." Kimberly told me.
"Yes, we can do that." I nodded, "That will be a really nice gesture and I'm sure she would appreciate it."
"I'm still excited for the sleep over though." She smiled.
"Yeah, me too." I agreed.
"Hey... what's this?" we both turned to look at Tommy as we saw him grab something out of his bag. My stomach sank a little when I realized that it was an envelope. Great, another one delivered.
"Looks like an envelope." Billy commented.
"Yeah, it is." I cleared my throat as I stood up and walked closer to where he was sitting, "And it's from me – but I didn't put it in your bag. I didn't even intend for you to ever see that."
"What do you mean?" Tommy asked.
"Billy, you should probably listen to this too..." Rocky said.
"I wrote six letters one night when I was feeling really bad... Six goodbye letters to you guys. Somehow, someone else knew about them and has been delivering them one by one. The only two who haven't gotten theirs now are Adam and Billy but it's only a matter of time." I told him and Billy.
"Can I read it?" Tommy asked.
"Well yeah... but just know that I wasn't in my right mind when I wrote those and they don't have the same meaning now." I shook my head.
I watched as Tommy pulled the letter out of the envelope and started reading it out loud. I didn't realize that he had meant that's what he was going to do, but his was the least serious letter I had probably written so I wasn't too concerned but it was still embarrassing to hear out loud coming from his own mouth.
Dear Tommy,
I know we've only known each other for a short time and there isn't a lot we know about each other. Out of our whole little group, you and I have gotten to know each other the least and I do regret that. But, that still doesn't mean that we weren't friends... I think? I do appreciate you stepping up and helping Adam that day we had to save Billy. I really didn't care what happened to be then but I knew Billy needed our help right then and there. You didn't hesitate when I asked you to promise to keep Adam from stopping me from helping him. You stepped up and made it possible for us to save him. I see why the others look up to you as the leader of the team because you're loyal – even to those you barely know. I was only apart of the team for a short while, but you were a great leader and friend. I'm sorry we didn't get to know each other better. I hope you stay forever happy with Kim because that girl is going to marry you one day.
