When I woke up that morning, Rocky had told me that we were needed at the Youth Center because Ms. Maria wanted to start having a few practices for the talent show that was set to be at the end of next week. I wasn't expecting it to be so soon since there had been many hiccups with it already, but that was alright with me. I'd rather just get it over with now because I wasn't even feeling it anymore. It just seemed like a headache for everyone but I'm sure it was going to turn out good. I was honestly just looking forward to getting to play my violin.
I took a shower – and brushed my teeth twice after because I still felt gross from the other day, but I was glad I was feeling much better. Both of Rocky's parents were at work when we left, so there wasn't much for us to worry about doing. I usually liked to help do something before I left, but neither of us did anything this time. That was okay – I'd do something when we got home. Although, I did start a load of my own laundry before I left since I really needed it.
Rocky and I chit-chatted about the talent show as we walked to the Youth Center. We talked about some of the different acts we remembered seeing in the audition process, but then he dropped the bomb on me that Ms. Maria had let Katherine and Tanya enter. I understand that she wanted everyone to be included, but both Rocky and I instantly thought they were up to something. In fact – I knew they were up to something because I'm almost positive that if I wasn't even in the talent show, they wouldn't even bother.
Rocky held the door open to the Youth Center and then we ventured inside. I looked around the room to see what familiar faces I could find. The only other three people I saw so far were Aisha, Tommy, and Billy. Neither Adam nor Kimberly were there yet, but I'm sure they would be. I didn't even see Jason who was supposed to be helping Billy, but he might be somewhere around here.
I saw Ms. Maria standing with some other kids talking about something, so I thought maybe Adam was floating around here somewhere too. I stopped to talk to Ms. Maria and she gave me a piece of paper with the order everyone would be preforming in. I looked for my name, seeing that it was towards the end at around two-ish. Then I scanned for Adam's name, seeing that he was one of the first five people on the list... but then directly after him was Tanya's name and I didn't like that... I didn't say anything about it, but I still didn't like it. I looked to see where Katherine's name was and lo and behold, she was right before Kimberly. Something was fishy to me and I wasn't liking this already.
I folded the piece of paper up and stuck it in my pocket as I headed towards the music room. I had some time to get the violin I was borrowing ready, but I'd still like to practice for a little while beforehand. When I walked into the music room, I saw Adam fiddling with a guitar already and Jason was in there with him.
"Trying to steal my boyfriend, huh?" I asked when I walked into the room and they both looked at me.
"Oh definitely. He called me baby – he's all mine." Jason started laughing.
"You can have him. He likes to eat funky smelling hotdogs." I joked.
"You're never going to let me live that down, are you?" Adam asked as he sighed. I think that it might actually bother him that we both got sick and I could see it written on his face, so now I felt bad about bringing it up.
"Sorry – I'll stop bringing that up." I muttered.
"Did you get the schedule from my grandma?" Adam asked.
"Yeah, and little miss Tanya sure got the perfect placement in the lineup, didn't she?" I rolled my eyes.
"I should have known you were going to notice that." Adam looked at me.
"Do they not like each other?" Jason asked.
"No." Adam and I said simultaneously.
"Noted." Jason nodded.
