"To love or have loved, that is enough. Ask nothing further. There is no other pearl to be found in the dark folds of life."

-Victor Hugo, Les Misérables

"Look who finally decided to come home" Kendra says, smiling at me the moment I enter my apartment. I roll my eyes at her.

"Kendra I know you know I was next door last night"

She smacks her tongue with the upper roof of her mouth and turns to me, "Tsk tsk tsk, mistake. I know you were there the whole of last night. I heard you two from outside the door. I hope there wasn't a fight?"

"Nope. Just a mere argument that we resolved." I say, folding the dress I wore yesterday before taking a seat on the couch.

"I can tell. I mean, supposing the way you look..." she trails off, smirking, looking at my outfit which consists of nothing but Ale's shirt.

"Kendraaa" I roll my eyes and get off the couch "I'm going to take a shower." I say and leave her in the kitchen as she laughs at my retreating figure.

"I need to get going" I tell Kendra, taking the last bite of my toast.

"Where to?"

"The hospital. I have to go and take the DNA test result since the court case is coming up pretty soon"

"Oh that's true. I can come with you if you like?" She offers and I smile..

"Of course. I'll be attending the dinner with Gerald's mom and I need something that won't make me look pregnant. I don't plan on letting them know"

"Privacy?"

"Exactly"

"Let me change into something more outgoing. I'll be right back" she says and I nod.

"This is your test result ma'am, and it has already been paid for" the nurse tells me and I thank her

"Uh.. wait.  You said it's already paid for. By whom please?"

"It's Anonymous" she smiles at me and I nod.

"Are you going to open it now?" Kendra asks and I smile, "I don't see the point in extending it. It's not an examination result, that bastard has no hold over my child and he knows it" I say to her, tearing open the brown envelope.

Sharing a glance with her, I take out the white sheet and look at the only place which holds information that benefits me.

It's either 99.9% paternity or 0% paternity. Nothing else.

The paper falls out of my hand as I read what is on sheet.
My legs give out, and tears come out of my eyes at a fast pace. They just roll and roll and roll down in waves.

Kendra doesn't say anything, she takes the paper and folds it and places it in her hand, "Wait a second" she says and I nod.
