"Love is the whole thing. We are only pieces."

- Rumi

*~*~*

"Hey what's this?" Kendra asks me once we reach my apartment, looking at a big box that is seated on the front door, awaiting my presence.

"I don't know" I say quietly, looking directly to the opposite door facing mine.
Was it him? Did be bring that just to placate me? He should just stop this and come and see me. I don't think I'll have it in me to turn him away, besides, I've punished him enough.

"Do you think it's him?" She asks with a smirk, looking next door. I shrug. She moves to to knock on the door and I take hold of her elbow

"Hey what are you doing?" I ask her, bringing her back

"You need to ask him if he's the one who brought this" she says and I shake my head, but Kendra doesn't take any of that, and proceeds to knock on the door.

My heart stops, and I only take in a deep breath when no one opens up or even responds.

"He's a smart fucker" she laughs and I roll my eyes with a small smile on my face, ignoring her. I take the box inside and place it on the dining table, before opening it.

Inside it's a long beautiful red dress, with spaghetti straps and a slit on the leg.
I furrow my eyebrows, wanting to know where this came from. Luckily, there's a card inside that reads, for tonight. You'll look beautiful in it.
- G.

It's Gerald.

"So who's it?" She asks, looking at the card in my hand.

"Gerald" I mutter softly.

"Wait. The Gerald you told me about sometime ago?" Kendra asks and I nod. She doesn't know him perosnally, but after I moved here, she was the first friend I made, and I just needed someone to talk to and she was there. So I told her about my relationship, or lack thereof, with Gerald, and she understood, she was there for me. Even threatened to cut his dick off with an axe. Kendra has been crazy since long.

"Wow. Is he trying to win you back or something?" She asks and I shrug

"I don't know. But it's not going to work. I've already told him the only thing I can offer is friendship"

"At least you have made it clear" I nod in agreement.

"Come, let me show you your room" I say and lead her to the clean and neat guest room that I set up for her, with a television and new bedsheets and pillows. There is a closet that can store her clothes and a bathroom of her own.

"I'm sorry I can't spend your first night here with you. Apparently the night for Gerald's Charity Gala is this evening. But be rest assured that I'll make it up to you"

She smiles at me, "Don't worry. I'm just glad you allowed me to stay here with you."

"Why not. You are my friend and you're always welcome at where I am"

"Your bestfriend" she corrects and I laugh "But thank you"

"That's enough gratitude"
