"The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference"

- Elie Wiesel

*~*~*

I wipe my sweaty hands on my skirt as I make my way to Dr. Coben's office. I don't know why I'm nervous.

I knock twice but when I hear nothing I twist the door knob and enter. His office is really nice, a photo frame of a woman who I'm supposing is his wife is on his oak wood desk, a clear beautiful view behind his office chair which is currently empty.

Where is he? He is never around. This is the second time I'm coming here and meeting his absence instead of him..

I take one last look around the huge office in disappointment and make a move for the door when I hear a voice which makes me startle

"Dr. Greenleaf said you're my new assistant?" He asks, coming out of a certain door holding a glass of whiskey?

He's drinking on hospital grounds, isn't that illegal of some sort?

I take moment a look at him well. He's really good looking. I'll give him that. Maybe too good looking to be a doctor. No doctor should give their patients a heart attack. Green eyes. Dark curly hair. 6'0 foot.

"Y-yes. Umm... I came looking for you the other time but you weren't around" I finally snap out of my daze and reply

"I was taking care of some things. What's your name?" He asks, gulping down the drink

"Eufy-Loviette Johnson" I say, feeling like I've mentioned my name much too much this week

"Nice name. Which one do I pick? Eufy or Loviette?" He asks with amusement

"Any one you prefer. It's your choice" I say, wanting this conversation to end already. There is something off about him that give me the creeps. But I shut that part of my brain off, because whether I like it or not, I'll be working with him for a long time and I can't put myself through torture by already having negative thoughts of a man I've barely spent twenty minutes around just because I'm looking too much into things.

"Okay. You're going to schedule my appointments. Give our regular medicines to my patients, and sometimes go to surgery with me"

"Go to surgery with you?" I ask, happiness surging through me. Going to surgery with him means learning more things than I did and will learn in school.

"Yes. It's that a problem?" He asks with a raised brow which makes him look more perfect than he already is

Hormones shut the fuck up

"No. Not at all" I'm so excited

"So what time do you get off?"

"12pm. I take classes at the adjacent university at 1pm" I repeat to him the strict schedule that is imprinted in my memory.

"Then you should come in earlier than nine" he says, taking a sip from him glass and looking nonchalant.
