"Dad, can we talk?" I ask, entering my dad's work room in the palace that looks more like a conference room than anything else.
"Of course, son. What do you want to talk about?" He asks and I keep quiet, taking a seat first.
It has been two weeks since my brother, Greggory, came home. As said before, we conducted four DNA tests, making sure that he matched with all of ours- Dad, Mom, Eulalie, and I. And to be honestly speaking, they all matched. He has gotten along with all of us like the true family member he is. The Kingdom staff love him, and he has a charm that pulls everyone at the moment they meet him.
So I guess this is the right decision.
"Dad we have not yet announced to the public and the people of France that Greggory, the Kingdom's eldest son, is back"
My dad sighs, taking off his glasses before saying, "Your mother and I were planning to hold a ball for that, to announce to not just this nation but all others, that our first son is back"
"Good. Because I wanted to uh... I wanted to... step down from the throne"
My father frowns, confused, "What do you mean?"
"Father, he is your eldest son. If he hadn't left, originally he would have been the one to take the throne after you stepped down. But that wasn't the case because he was not here, but now that he is, I think it is best that you turn the ball into a coronation and crown him as king"
"You know your brother would not mind if you were still king right?"
"I know that, father. And that is one of the things I love about him most since we met him- his selflessness." I smile "He got that from you" I say in a whisper and we both chuckle.
"I have been King for four years father, and I want to believe that I have done my best for this Kingdom, but now my elder brother is back, and I believe he has every right to the throne and he is supposed to exercise that right"
"You have truly done your best son, and I am proud of you. You have done more than I estimated for you. But tell me this, what is the true reason why you want to step down?"
"Can't I do something nice, Dad?"
He chuckles before speaking, "Son, you can. But I feel there is something else... is this about the woman?"
"Yes Dad" I sigh, even Dad didn't ask if this is about 'a' woman, but he said 'the' woman "This is about Eufy. By now she has finished her medical course, and I am damn sure she is not going to leave her life for me. So I am willing to leave mine for her. Besides, Dad, ever since we broke up four years ago, I have never been that happy"
"If this is what you want, I won't stop you. Your brother will take the throne, soon"
"Thank you" I smile, hugging him.

"Where are you coming from looking so flustered?" I ask Eulalie, giving her a knowing look
"Nowhere" she says, sounding breathless
"You still aren't going to tell me who he is are you?"
"Nope" she says, shaking her head
"Do you love him?" I ask her and her eyes turn wide
"N-no. Uh... excuse me Antoine. See you later" she says quickly and hurriedly moves past me, and I decide not to stop her.
Little does she know I already know who it is.

"Congratulations Brother" I say to Greggory, smiling
"Thank you so much for this Alex. You are not obligated to do this, yet you did"
"There is no need to thank me. This is all yours" I say and pull him into a hug
"So Dad told me something about you being in love?" He asks, wiggling his eyebrows.
I groan, "Really?" I ask with an eye roll.
"Yes, and according to him, you have been in love with her for a very long time"
"Love doesn't know time"
"So where is she?"
"Faraway from me, that's for sure"
"Everything will be fine, you know that right?"
"I do"
"Can you tell me something about her?"
"Oh yes" I smile widely "She is the most beautiful woman I have ever laid my eyes on. Completely stunning. She has the heart of gold, and when she loves, she loves deeply, wholeheartedly and completely. She is like my good luck charm, you know? Life with her was amazing, full of joy."
"You really do love her" he states.
"I do. I really do"
And I hope that is not too late, and I also hope that this love can be enough.
