"The only thing we never get enough of is love, and the only thing we never give enough of is love"

- Henry Miller.

*~*~*

"Thank you so much for being there for me when I needed you Eufy. I don't think I could have gone through it without you" Hailey says softly and my eyes brim with tears.

Dr Greenleaf had to ran some lab tests on her to know what infection she had picked up and why she had a fever, after she prescribed something for her to help her right off the infection. Luckily, she's okay now and I'm happy.

"You were strong and went through all that on your own Hailey. I'm really proud of you" I say and a smile tugs on her lips upon hearing that

"Dr Greenleaf says I'll be fine and right after I complete my chemo I can go home" she says and my eyes light up

"Really?"

"Mhm" she nods eagerly

"That's great"

A knock sounds on Hailey's door softly and I turn to see the receptionist, "Ms. Johnson, someone is here to see you"

"Oh really?" I furrow my eyebrows. I'm not expecting anybody "Who?"

"Gerald Knight"

Of course, everyone knows Gerald fucking Knight.

"You know Gerald Knight?" Hailey asks, her eyes wide.

I sigh. This is exactly what I don't want. Receiving attention from everyone because I know the rich, young bachelor Gerald Knight.

"Yes. Yes I do. I'll be back" I say hurriedly and leave the room, following the receptionist to the waiting area.

Everyone is glancing in the direction of Gerald, and I roll my eyes.

"Seriously Gerald? First my house and now my workplace?" I ask, folding my arms.

"Hello to you too babe" he says, with a twinkle in his eyes.

The nickname, babe, causes me to cringe in a weird way, because it's obviously not coming from Ale.

"First of all, don't call me that. Secondly, what do you want?"

The smirk on his face falls, and he uses his fingers to scratch the back of his neck as if he is nervous.

"Will you go on a date with me?" He asks, and for a moment in stunned.

He wants me to go on a date with him? Did he not get a single thing I told him the last time?

I look around to make sure no one heard before I reply, "Gerald, I already told you that the only thing I can offer is-

"Friendship" he finishes my sentence, nodding. The hope in his eyes diminished and washed away by my rejection. I really don't want to be the reason for him not being happy, but I can't string him along and tell him things that are not true. I can't fake feelings that I don't have, and I am certainly not going to lead him on.
