I turned the page in my book and turned up the volume of my music. I was currently sitting in the tutoring area with headphones in.
So far I'd passed two of my finals and was waiting for the results of one. I basically didn't sleep all week with the amount of studying I did.
Will venmoed me money on Tuesday and Wednesday to pay for coffee and I helped him as best I could to make sure he passed his English final.
Other than that, we hadn't seen much of each other. And I was thankful for it.
I hadn't figured out what I was going to do yet because schoolwork had distracted me, but now that I was done with finals, my mind was spiraling.
His last final was on Friday and then he had a few more important games he had to focus on.
All while I was studying, Gen and Casey were still working hard to figure out where we were going to stay in Florida.
I just let them talk. I had no ideas so far.
"Are you a tutor for English?"
I closed my book and peered up to see Monica standing on the other side of the table.
She was eyeing me and smirking. I felt my heart drop to my stomach and stayed silent.
She moved to sit down in the chair opposite me and placed her textbooks on the table. "Hi, I'm Monica."
I swallowed and placed a tight smile on my face. "Hi, I'm-"
"Maya Cameron?" She said knowingly. "Yeah, I know who you are."
I looked away nervously and tapped my foot on the ground. Why did she know me exactly?
"Um, okay? So tell me about what class you're studying for." I said trying to stay cool.
Something about her sitting here didn't sit right with me. She was smiling but it didn't meet her eyes. She was looking at me like I was smaller than her. Childlike almost.
Her hands folded together as she leaned her elbows on the table. "I'm gonna be honest with you, I'm not here for tutoring."
Her smile dropped and she gave me a death glare. It was so intense that I could only muster a face of confusion as I kept eye contact with her.
"I know you're the girl with Will." She deadpanned.
I felt like I skipped a step walking down the stairs. My heart dropped in my chest. How? Who told her?
"Where did-"
She shushed me and rolled her eyes. "I'm not done yet."
My mouth almost fell open slightly. Did she just shush me? Was this even real?
