Will's POV
8:45 pm
I curled and uncurled my fingers over and over again. My leg wouldn't stop shaking as labored breaths escaped my lips.
"Next!" The nurse said at the front desk.
The Ohio State University Medical Center waiting room was partially full.
I don't know how long I'd been here. 20 minutes or something.
The last half-hour had been the craziest blur of my life.
One moment I was holding Maya's unconscious body in my hands and the next she was being rushed to the Operating Room while paramedics tried to revive her seemingly dead body.
I looked back down at my hands. They were partially covered in blood and trembling. Not my blood.
After my heart stopped pounding, I called Sean and Casey and told them what I could manage to mumble out through my state of panic and fear. They were on their way right now.
I called my parents and they offered to drive out tonight but I convinced them not to.
I wasn't sure if I was supposed to call Maya's Aunt Lucy. I think she was on her emergency contact form but I wasn't sure.
I closed my eyes tightly and placed my elbows on my knees.
It was about an hour ago when I had decided that I was going to drive to the courthouse to support Monica. That's when I saw Maya driving in front of me. I tried to get her attention by flashing my lights but she didn't seem to notice me.
Then when I got to the building she was nowhere to be found. It wasn't even 10 minutes when I heard some weird noises coming from one of the hallways.
I turned a corner and saw him standing over her. She was on the floor bleeding.
My anger got the best of me and I threw him against the ground, pounding my fist into his face and throwing him against the vending machine.
I would've done more damage until I realized that she'd been stabbed.
I held her in my arms for so little time until she took one last choking breath and her body went cold.
The paramedics showed up and I rode in the back with them. That's when I saw them try and revive her and they did it all the way to the hospital.
Then she was rolled in on a gurney past some doors and I was told to wait out here.
This wasn't real. She actually died in my arms.
I knew the adrenaline hadn't slowed down in my body because I wasn't fully crying now.
I just stared at the tiles along the floor.
I was gonna be sick.
"Will!"
I stood up and watched as Casey came running towards me. Gen, Ben, and Sean trailed closely behind her.
Gen's eyes grew wide as she stared down at my hands. She covered her hand with her mouth and her eyes glazed over with tears.
"Oh my gosh. What happened?" Casey said in a panicked voice.
I swallowed hard and took a breath. "She was um---there in the courthouse and then Cooper was there and she was um----," I was breathless as I spoke.
"Will, slow down," Sean said coming to stand behind me.
He looked at my bloody hands and placed a hand on my shoulder. "Take a breath and then talk slowly."
