Will's POV

My reflection stared back at me through the clear glass as the corner of my lip twitched in anticipation. I kept fussing with my shifting collar as I waited for her.

My mind was diverging into so many scenarios already.

I hoped that the restaurant would be to her liking. I didn't even know what she was allergic to. What if she didn't like Caribbean food?

I should've just gone with a simple pizza date. I didn't want to mess this up.

I slid my sweaty palms against my suit pants and took a soft breath.

The time on my watch read 7:50 pm. I still had another 10 minutes till she would be here.

I hadn't seen Maya since we were at the beach a couple of days ago and I'd been antsy ever since.

That photo she showed me took me so off guard that I hadn't stopped thinking about it. I'd been very careful and now fully avoided Monica at the hotel.

I didn't want her to think I was someone that would disrespect her like that. We were just starting this relationship and I didn't want to scare her off.

I pulled at my collar once more when the waiter came up with two menus.

"I have the menus you requested." She said. I smiled up at her. She was an older-aged woman with caramel brown skin and small stature. She reminded me of grandma in a way. "Do you want to order anything before your date arrives?"

"Um.." I stared at the empty seat across from me and I looked down at the menu quickly. "I'll just wait till she gets here."

She smiled and moved to walk away.

"Wait.." I said grabbing her attention again. She turned to face me and waited for my response.

I placed the menu on top of my plate and folded my hands together.

"I know that this place is a range of different Caribbean cuisines so I just wanted to know if you had any mainly Trinidadian meals ?" I asked. I was out of my element with this kind of thing.

She gave me a small look of surprise and smiled. "Well, everything here is a blend of many different island foods so nothing is specifically Trini food."

I nodded in understanding. "That's alright. Thank you." Looking back at the menu, I felt a little lost. I wanted to find something that Maya would like and I remember her mentioning that her mother was from Trinidad and it was her favorite food when she was younger.

"But..." I looked up realizing that the waitress was still standing there. "If you wanted to start off with an appetizer, I would recommend doubles. It's a small meal served with two baras filled with curry channa and some different chutneys."

"That sounds good. Thank you." I said gratefully.

"Yep. I'll be over with them shortly." She smiled at me and walked away.

My phone buzzed in my pocket and I pulled it out anxiously.

You look so handsome. - Maya.

I smiled at the message and reread it, a little confused.

How did she-

I heard a slight tap on the window and looked up to see Maya standing outside. She smiled brightly at me.
