"If you follow me I'll know it." the intruder said, as I felt him shove me into the seat of what I assumed was one of the spy academy's cars. I heard the door slam shut and a few moments later, another door open and then shut. The vehicle then started; he must've hotwired it. The car started to move and my heart was beating faster and faster. Where is this maniac taking me?
Minutes passed before, I felt the car slow down, and pull over. This is how I'm gonna die? My palms became sweaty as I heard my door open. "Well, that was something. I didn't mean to punch you that hard." the intruder said, as I felt him un- tying the ropes on my wrists; That voice where have I- Oh, oh my gosh! It can't be.
My thoughts were racing as I pulled my hands to the front and quickly ripped off the bag off my head. I shot out of my seat like a rocket and starred in the face of my captor in shock and a little horror; Rory!
"No, no it can't be. You left, and you never came back." I stuttered out, back away from him a little. "Zylina, I told you I would be back to pick you up, so here I am." he answered me, looking around to make sure there was no one around. That sentence hit my heart hard, and soon I was that sad ten-year old I was when he first left the Academy.
"Rory, where have you been all this time? After three years passed, I thought you forgot about me." I asked. "Okay first of all if you thought I forgot about you. Why'd you keep the cuff?" Rory asked. I looked down at the bracelet, but said nothing; I guess I had a little hope that he would still come for me. "And second I'll explain that when we are miles away from the Academy." Rory continued. He got me into the passenger seat of the car, and then he got into the driver's seat and we started driving down the road.
My thoughts were still racing; none of this made any sense to me. "Rory, you know these cars have trackers in them, right?" I asked. "I know, how do you think I found you in New York?" Rory answered.
"Wait, you were the one tailing me?" I asked; right now I wanted to punch him in the mouth, but he needed that to answer my questions.
"Who else do you think it was?" Rory replied, without even glancing at me. I leaned back and sighed in frustration; I was about to explode with all these questions about where he was and why he was only coming back now.
Somehow Rory knew what I was thinking, and pulled over. I glanced at him with confusion plastered on my face, but he said, "Zyl, I know you're probably mad at me for leaving you, but I found my family." I didn't reply; I didn't even make eye contact with him.
I heard him sigh and continue with, "I'll explain everything, but not now. Besides with cars, is there anything else they can track us with?" I looked at him, a little less angry now, and moved my collar a little bit off my shoulder to reveal a four inch scar.
"What is that?" Rory asked, shifting in his seat to get a better view of the scar. "After you left, they didn't trust me anymore since I was so close to you. They put a tracker inside of me." I replied, averting my eyes to look at the car floor.
Rory pounded the steering wheel, and I could see him clench his jaw. "They sliced you open, and put something in you? Oh, now they're really gonna get it." he practically growled. Rory rubbed his face, and leaned back in the chair.
I've never seen that much anger in his eyes; I had already guessed that he was probably angry at himself for leaving me, but now he was furious for the Academy cutting me. Out of comfort and empathy, I put my hand on his shoulder and said, "We can worry about revenge later, for now let's just leave."
Rory looked at me, anger still plastered on his face, then answered, "I know someone who can take out the chip." He started the car, and we drove away, away from the only home I've ever known.
Rory has returned; how will this affect Zylina?
To be continued...
