Two days later...
Rory and I didn't talk much after dinner the first night; I continued to have those awful nightmares, making it almost impossible to get a goodnight sleep. It was time to leave after two days of staying with Rory's parents. Rory didn't tell me where we were going next, and that kind of made me not want to talk to him even more.
"Rory, you'll look after her won't you?" I heard Rory's mom ask, behind me. "Yes, mom. I will; I promise." I heard Rory answer. I wanted to tell him that I was angry, I wanted to tell him I didn't want to leave, but I knew it was childish so I kept my mouth clamped shut. I felt a tap on my shoulder, and turned around; Rory's mom handed me a medium sized bag filled with stuff. "What's in here?" I asked. "Since you've never had anything of your own I decided to get you some personal things. There are some books in there of all different genres, some pj and other types of clothes, and a phone in case you want to talk to us. There's also some soap, a toothbrush, a brush, and other things like that for you in there." Sarah Wood explained. I was in shock no one had ever done that for me before. "You didn't have to do that." I said, almost in tears. "Yes, I did. I knew you would like some things to do on the trip, and you didn't have anything but clothes." Sarah responded.
"T....Thank you. You don't know me and yet you're so kind to me." I stuttered. Rory's mom put her hands on my cheeks and said, "After everything Rory has told me about you dear, after hearing what you've been through, I know you like you were my own daughter." I gave her a smile, but before I could say anything else the moment was ruined by Rory, who came in and asked, "You read, Zylina?" Rory's mom took her hands off my cheeks and embraced Rory and kissed him on the cheek. "Promise you'll visit soon." she said. Rory took her mother's hands and said, "I'll try my best mom, but I can't make promises." I could tell he didn't want to do this either, but I think we both knew to keep the world safe there were some sacrifices we needed to make.
Rory's mom and dad stood on their porch watching as we drove off in the car. I didn't know when we would see them next, but I knew that our paths would probably cross at some point in our new adventure across the U. S. "Zylina, I'm sorry for-" I cut Rory off before he could finish his apology. "I know you're sorry, Rory, but you have to stop keeping secrets from me." I said. Rory chuckled nervously and said, "Yeah, I promise from now on I'll tell you the truth." It was my turn to chuckle a little bit and I stated, "You've been making a lot of promises lately." "Yes, yes, I have." Rory answered, smirking. We both started laughing, and I knew I was ready for whatever lied ahead, or at least I hoped I was.
