Reluctantly, Song Anyue made her way to them, with Wan Yunque in tow.
The figurines were very pretty, they looked like some concubines, dressed lightly in red almost see through fabric, with long black hair, silky to the touch. The craftsmanship was so fine, you wouldn't be able to tell dead from living, if the ever present paper texture and paleness didn't give them away. Tho the light makeup did wonders on their faces, a little bit of red to their cheeks and a vibrant eyeshadow, with vine red lips looked gorgeous on them.
Song Anyue looked them over with a critical eye, being an artist herself."A-Yu... there's not much time," scolded Wei Wuxian before she could really take a good look and shook her out of her thoughts.
Song Anyue blinked twice, she was really trying to delay this as much as possible. However, Wan Yunque soon realized that the delay is useless.
"He fell! He fell!" someone suddenly shouted from the window and Wei Wuxian gave the girls a strange look.
"Is something the matter?" he asked.
"I don't feel good about that person," answered Song Anyue immediately.
"Yeah, I feel like I've seen him somewhere before," nodded Wan Yunque.
"No matter, we can't just let him die," reprimanded them Wei Wuxian and than softened his gaze, as he gently put a hand on each of their shoulders.
"Take it as an opportunity to work on your cultivation," he told them, "besides, he's just one person and there's at least 3 of us, with some disciples to help."
Only after that were the two ladies calmed enough. Wan Yunque started, she pulled out her fan and used its sharp side to make a small cut on her finger. Without much thought, she pressed it lightly on the mannequin's forehead and mumbled few phrases with closed eyes. In the blink of an eye, the paper lady's eyes opened and she started softly smiling, lightly chuckling after a while, as her smile widened, she hid her mouth slowly with her sleeve.
"My skills are a bit rusty," commented Wan Yunque displeasedly.
Song Anyue followed suit, she also made a cut into her hand, but unlike Wan Yunque, she seemingly absentmindedly spread the red liquid on her finger, it looked rather painful, since she was rubbing the cut frequently and with no small force. Once she deemed the amount of blood on her finger satisfactory, she made a few lines on the figurine's forehead, than she stood a little back and extended her arm to the doll, while singing in a hushed voice:
"Hold my hand, little lady, it's a long way to the bottom of this river. Hold my hand, little lady, I'll show you the way it goes down..." *Their "disciple friends" couldn't understand the lyrics at all, since they were in english, but the tone and melody sent chills down their spines. It was cold and sounded ruthless, as they heard it, all thought about cold murder and had to shrug the sudden discomfort down.
They weren't calmed yet, when half of them had the shock of their life, when the second Song Anyue finished her song, the doll raised her hand at lightning speed and grabbed the offered hand. It's eyes remained closed, she only parted her lips slightly, moving them as if talking, but inevitably not making any sounds.
The disciples weren't sure what was creepier, the chuckling basically alive figure, or the robotic fast moving and as if speaking marionette.
"You took your time, be quick," tsked Wei Wuxian when they were finished.
Wan Yunque smirked and snapped her fingers, the second she did so, both figurines sprinted outside and not even half a minute later, they were back with the now unconscious man.
