"The moon hung over the planet Earth, a dead thing over a dying thing."
- John Fowles.
The thunderous downpour had no mercy on any of the people of New Orleans.
Sirena was completely soaked, her body shaking uncontrollably as she fought the overwhelming urge to shift. It was in her nature, every fibre of her being was screaming at her to allow her instincts to take over and let her legs turn into a tail.
But she wouldn't. Instead, she glued her eyes to the casket that held the body of Esther Mikaelson, the Original Witch.
The rest of the Mikaelsons stood on her right. Klaus held an umbrella for himself and his sister, after Sirena had politely rejected his offer for cover, and then Elijah did the same for himself and Hayley.
She wasn't paying attention to the words Kieran was speaking while blessing the ground, she was also ignoring Klaus' burning gaze as she refused to meet his eyes.
This was all becoming too much for her, the memories were too overwhelming. However, she straightened her spine, her feet firmly rooted to the ground.
Sirena didn't even know why exactly she was there. She wasn't a Mikaelson nor was she carrying the Mikaelson baby, but she hadn't asked any questions when Klaus picked her and Hayley up from St. Anne's church to go to the old governor's house.
"Have you found her?" Klaus asked his sister, stealing glances at the mermaid's figure in the rain. Rebekah nodded in confirmation. "Will he bring her?"
"He'll bring her." The blonde didn't sound pleased with her own answer.
But Klaus noticed how Sirena stiffened in her place, her hands balling into fists by her sides. Trying to be discreet, the hybrid allowed his free hand to give her fist a gentle squeeze.
Her blue eyes then fell on his face, letting go of the anger and sharing his helplessness regarding the situation. According to what Rebekah had told them about Davina's state, there was nothing else they could do for the young witch."Are you ready to do this?" Kieran's voice made them cut off the small contact of their hands and pretend the previous seconds had never happened.
Klaus took off the hood of his waterproof black jacket, giving the umbrella for Rebekah to hold. He held on to the silver dagger Kieran had previously given Sirena, who was now passing on to the hybrid with a blank expression.
Without wasting a second, he made a cut on the palm of his hand. "Always and forever." Klaus spoke to his family, smirking while handing the dagger to Rebekah.
Once each of the people with Mikaelson blood had used the same dagger, Kieran threw it into the ground and with the casket.
"It is done." The priest announced solemnly.
