"The memory of the sun weakens in my heart."

- A Hundred White Daffofils, by Anna Akhmatova.

The recent events had left Sirena's spirit like shattered glass, with sequels of content insomnia that later led to a constant grumpiness that worried Hayley and Eve during the next three weeks in which the three women had taken care of building the place to the likes of the pack, all with high hopes of breaking their curse.

The mermaid was just as clueless as her friends when it came to what possible thing she could do to give her soul some peace. As the sun went down again, the tiredness her body held was dissonant with her mind.

It finally led the mermaid to sit at the end of the small wooden pier, her lost and tired gaze alternating between the moon in the sky and the dark waters beneath her.

The unruly thoughts that crowded her mind were simply the repercussion of brushing her traumas under the rug for so many years, and she knew it. However, Sirena was not ready to face them, not all of them at least. She knew the people around her wondered about her past, but it was easier to pretend all those years didn't happen, as much for her as for the other people in her life.

The creaks of the wooden boards of the pier alerted her of another presence joining her in the chilly and quiet night.

"Why the hell are you awake right now? You've looked like a zombie all week, I thought you'd fall to your bed at once." Questioned Hayley while still being a few feet behind.

Sirena stood up slowly as Hayley arrived by her side, she didn't want the pregnant werewolf trying to sit with her legs tangling considering how big her belly was at this point.

"My mind refuses to grant me peace in my slumber." Sirena sighed, unable to meet her friend's gaze.

Hayley held on to the ends of the blanket that was protecting her from the cold of the night breeze, and opened her arms as an invitation for Sirena to be warm as well. With a side smile, the mermaid hugged the werewolf , both women standing side by side, enjoying the comfort the other's presence gave them.

It was a comfort they had both longed for, for as long as they could remember. The mermaid was  friends with Eve, but she had always kept certain distance between them because of her task, because of what the oracle had dictated. But, with Hayley it had been a completely different story.
Daily questions of her pregnant state and feelings towards her unborn baby had brought the two young women together. The high walls each of them had built around their hearts had melted into their friendship.

Sirena gently placed her hand over the big belly bump, grinning widely when she felt the baby's little kicks. "Hello, littlest one." She whispered.
