"A region of chaos and moonlight. She liked it there."
—Anais Nin.
MARCEL GERARD WAS A LOT of things. He was handsome, cunning, and loyal to those he considered family. But he was also greedy, cocky and selfish.
Sirena could not really understand how his so–called kingdom still stood after so long when it was so flawed. But then again, so were the mermaids that had raised her until she was 19.
Whispers through the cracks of the dark alleys of New Orleans had been the best source of information she could get, and they were oddly accurate about most things.
For example, it allowed her to know all of Marcel's rules, his strong spots with the vampires and the boiling hatred the witch faction held against him.
Being an outsider, still on the side lines of the undoubtedly upcoming war, meant that the mermaid had no enemies, yet.
If she was to follow what the oracle had said, then a long list of people wanting her head on a silver tray will grow as flowers bloomed in springtime.
But it would be okay, at least she could tell herself that until it was believable.
A ball hosted at the Abattoir was a really dumb move, in her not–so–humble opinion.
First, it allowed possible enemies to study the fortress Marcel held dear along with his vampires. Second, it would show Marcel's personal weaknesses, who he talked to and with which motives, where he hid things he valued, and possible escape routes. Third, it was the perfect setting for an attack.
Sirena almost couldn't wait until nightfall, excited about twirling in her ball gown and having a mask to give her free access to see all the faces that would sooner–or–later play a role in her mission.
Walking inside his old home with Rebekah by his side made his eyes wander around, comparing all the changes Marcellus had made in their absence to how he used to decor the place to his liking. How preposterous it was for him to think that he could come close to the grandness of the Mikaelsons!
Klaus had given him everything, treated him like a son. And now, all the big 'M's marked everywhere were mocking him, the sickening thought of people relating it to 'Marcel's greatness' had his stomach churning.
He was well aware that Rebekah was chatting his ear off, but didn't care enough to actually process her words. His annoying yet beloved little sister was even bitchier than usual and he knew it was because Marcellus fancied the pretty blonde bartender from Rousseau's.
