On a normal day it took Adlyn a good 2 minutes to process anything. When she was tired, it was maybe 5, or seven, a few days it even took her 10 minutes to process what someone said and then formulate a response.

"I feel not smart," Adlyn said quietly a few hours later.

There was nothing Eve could say, except the truth. "Adlyn, you did it to yourself."

"I know," came softly, a bit later.

Eve looked up and saw Adlyn crying silently. She went over and hugged her and said, "I love you."

Several weeks later, Adlyn was at Isabel's, and Eve was taking a nap. Suddenly the phone went off, and Eve picked it up to hear her husband's manager's panicked voice say, "Eve there's a shoot out going on at the restaurant Genaro just got shot there's no way he's going to survive they're still shooting."

"Shit," Eve said. "Shit." She hung up and called her mom, and said, "Okay Mom I need you to go to the restaurant and get Genaro to a hospital there's a shoot out and he got shot please go help him!"

"Okay alright, relax, I'm going." Isabel hung up and rushed to the restaurant.

Let's just hope this doesn't kill me, too.
