"do you want bacon and eggs too?"
to Jungkook's surprise, the air between them on the next morning was not too weird. Taehyung came back at around 10 am while the younger was making some breakfast for himself. he sat down on one of the barstools, head in the palm of his hand, and just watched Jungkook cook.
"earth to Taehyung - hello? do you want bacon and eggs too?"
the younger received a small nod as an answer. he raised an eyebrow and shook his head, before turning around and cracking another egg into the pan. okay, maybe it was a little weird.
giving him dreamy looks wasn't the only thing Taehyung did the next few days. Jungkook got all types of compliments from the older. how his hair looked pretty or that his outfit was nice. and all the hugs! it seemed like his friend was using every opportunity given to him, to hug the other. when they greeted each other, when they said goodbye, back hugs when he was cooking, with Taehyung's chin on his shoulder.
Jungkook was more than suspicious of his friend's behavior. he never said that out loud though, scared Taehyung would stop while the younger actually enjoyed every second of it.
maybe the older was bisexual after all? but wouldn't he have mentioned that to Jungkook, the day he accidentally came out? maybe he was doing a dare? but Jimin was the only one who knew of the younger's crush, and Taehyung's friends didn't seem like they were childish enough for such a thing. whatever it was, Jungkook's soft heart couldn't say no.
when he called Jimin to ask what had happened the night of stargazing (+ the kiss) and if he knew what Taehyung's weird behavior was all about, the older only said that his lips were sealed from now on and that he had caused enough trouble already. which confused Jungkook even more.
so he gave up. he gave in. not that he minded getting all of the other's affection. the beach house was filled with giggles and blushy cheeks.
it was all fun and games until the last week of august came around. Jungkook's birthday was only a few days away.
the younger had always hated his birthday's. Jungkook thought of them as just another day like every other, while his parents loved celebrating it big. giving him presents he had never asked for and will probably never use. they baked cake and sang happy birthday, thinking they would know their son - Jungkook on the other hand, felt like an imposter. playing in the life of someone he wasn't, his dirty little secret hiding for no one to see. when they celebrated his birthday, it didn't actually feel like his birthday. they were singing and giving gifts to a stranger.
with every day that passed by, his mood dropped a little more. he had to remind himself that this year, everything was different. no parents and awkward singing. just himself and his best friend, who had promised him a birthday he would actually enjoy.
