i saw you in a dream - the japanese house

yet again, the sky was full of clouds in the same shade of grey. it had rained non stop since the morning. the drops fell in a pleasant rhythm on the window sills, leaving narrow streams across the glass. the whole world seemed a little sad today.

turning the pen between his fingers, Taehyung had no idea what the teacher was talking about. the words didn't form sentences in his head. and this was his favorite subject.
he hasn't written a single letter in his notebook. the blank page staring right back at him.

he rested his head in the palm of his hand. Jungkook wanted to leave this morning but Taehyung was able to convince him to stay at home, just long enough for his flu to go away.

he rubbed his eyes. he was more than confused. when they were still kids, the younger never had problems with his family. how much have things changed over the years? how much have both of them changed? Taehyung really wanted to know what was going on so he could help - but he also didn't want to push Jungkook. he just hoped it wasn't something bad.

at lunch he sat alone in the cafeteria. it was not like he didn't have friends - Hobi had dance classes at the moment, Namjoon was sick and Jimin went to a party yesterday. Taehyung had received a few drunken texts and videos of the older at 4am. it doesn't happen often that all three miss uni at the same time. alone wasn't too bad but he'd rather had company around him.

he pulled a book out of his tote bag. smoothed the corners and opened the page he left off last time. 'aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe" by benjamin alire sáenz. page 22. Taehyung had found it recently in his favorite book store near the uni campus. he had liked the cover and it was only 4$. he often bought used books there, the coffee stains on the back adding something to the aesthetic.

the story was interesting. 2 boys meeting, as different as summer and winter. as night and day. as sun and moon. but destined to be friends. exploring the universe together. it sounded somewhat magical. and it reminded him a bit of Jungkook and himself. when they first met in Taehyung's last year of elementary school. shy introvert Jungkook and outgoing extrovert Taehyung. the dynamic duo, that's what his mum had called them. life was a lot easier back then. they were never bored. had so many plans for the future. not a single cloud in their sky. how much they've grown, how much they've changed.

after his classes, Taehyung stopped by the convenience store he worked at. bought a few cups of ramen. small talk with his co-worker.

he thought about Jungkook on the way home. couldn't wait to eat noodles, sitting cross-legged on the living room floor.
