i'll stay (carla's song) - matt stinton

Jungkook rarely got sick. his last flu must be years ago. he has also never been to a hospital. he has always been the healthiest in his family.

but the first thing he noticed as he woke up was his soar throat. his nose was stuffed up and his face felt a bit swollen. he had actually caught a cold.

he sat up, rubbed his eyes. reached over the coffee table to get his phone.

5.48 am.

Jungkook wasn't a morning person. normally he'd sleep til 10 or 11 am. but his hurting throat kept him from falling asleep again.

he got up. stretched his arms, ruffled his hair. scrolled through his phone, threw it back on the couch. nothing new, nothing interesting. he walked over to the kitchen counter which was connected to the living room and made himself a cup of coffee. he practically lived off that stuff.

the backside of the house, which was facing the ocean, had a big glass sliding door. Jungkook put on his jacket before pushing it open and sitting down on the porch. he put his cup down besides him and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. lit one up.

he wasn't much of a smoker, never did it regularly. only when he had a lot on his mind. when he needed a distraction so his thoughts weren't able to eat him up. that didn't happen often, Jungkook wasn't a guy that let things get to him easily. but at the moment his thoughts seemed to go in a circle and he was in need of something to break that.

"you were never a morning person ... couldn't sleep?"

Jungkook was so lost in his thoughts, he didn't hear the sliding door open. he pulled his legs up to his chest, laid his cheek on his knee. he watched Taehyung as he sat down next to him, wrapped up in a blanket. he copied the younger's position - cheek on the knee facing the other. before Taehyung could reach for the cigarette between his fingers, Jungkook turned to the side, took a last hit and put it out.

"i wanted to stop anyway."

they sipped on their coffee not saying a word. it wasn't an awkward silence this time, just two friends enjoying the quite. there was no need to talk.

the sun was slowly coming out, painting the sky in the prettiest colors - yellow, orange, red and pink. only a few lonely clouds left as signs of yesterday's rain. Taehyung loved sunrises. the beginning of a new day. starting off fresh. every time he saw a sunrise he automatically felt better, as if he could accomplish every thing he set his mind to. even the most difficult tasks didn't seem that big anymore.

"you know that you can tell me everything, right? whatever is on your mind - i'm here to listen."

Jungkook nodded. he really wanted to tell the older. wanted to get the secret out - just for the sake of saying it out loud. admitting it to himself. finally accepting it.
but he couldn't. his mouth not following the orders of his brain. too scared of the other's reaction. to scared of his own. he let his head hang low, stared out in the blue.

"i guess we both stayed the same. i'm still lowkey mean and your still closed off. but it's fine. i just wanted to let you know that i'm here for you. i can wait until you're ready."
