places we won't walk - bruno major

Jungkook was happy. the moment he arrived at the home of his aunt, he was showered in love. sure, at first it was a bit awkward, meeting relatives his mom had never even mentioned to him. but they were so very nice and kind, he couldn't help but feel happy.

"you can call us however you want to - auntie and uncle, mom and dad or by our first names, it doesn't matter. we want you to feel comfortable and loved here, Jungkook."

it was a nice house in the suburbs, he had his own bed and bathroom. they still had some of their christmas decorations up. as Jungkook let cat examine their new home, he started to unpack his stuff. but the moment he opened the zipper of his sportsbag, his throat closed up and his eyes got teary. laying at the very top, was one of Taehyung's sweaters. the older must have smuggled it in, the night before he left. and as Jungook got it out and pulled it over his head, he was engulfed by his boyfriends cologne. all of the days happiness got replaced by the empty feeling of loneliness.

"can i come in?"

the boy snapped out of his daydream about Taehyung to see his cousin peeking in the door. Jin is a few years older than him and was currently visiting his parents, Jungkook's uncle and aunt, for the holidays. the younger hasn't talked a lot to him yet but he seemed nice. he nodded.

"i brought your bedding."

the older put new sheets in a warm beige color on the bed. awkward silence made the air feel heavy inside the room. Jungkook watched the older as he didn't leave but instead, sat down and patted the spot besides him on the newly made bed. the younger got up, whipped away the tears that rolled down his cheeks and let his body sink in the mattress. he didn't even realize that he had started crying.

"everything must be a little overwhelming for you right now... do you want to talk about it?"

it took a moment for Jungkook to catch his breath and sort his thoughts out. he didn't want to be a burden to the older while he barely even knew him. opening up to others was something he had always struggled with.

"i- i found my ... boyfriends sweater in my bag... and i just ... miss him a lot..."

his cousin's smile made the younger's chest feel warm. and as he brushed through Jungkook's hair with his fingers, it felt like Jin was the older brother he never had. an older brother he always wanted to have.

"please tell me about him."

so Jungkook told his cousin about Taehyung until the sun went down, and Jin listened and laughed about the romantic story of two middle school friends who have found love in each other. what the younger didn't know about, was the idea his cousin had, while he was talking about the boy he loved. and after Jin bid him good night, Jungkook didn't see how he walked past his own bedroom to find his parents.
