Blinding lights.

Am I dead?

What happened?

"(Y/n)... Oi! Snap out of it!" The harsh words of the captain makes me wake up screaming. He immediately pulls me into his embrace, rubbing my chilly body.

"Where's my father?" my voice squeaks. For some reason I am weak and tired. I can barely move away from Levi, his sudden touch shocking me to my core.

"You're more concerned for him than your own health. You didn't say you couldn't swim and you nearly drowned from how freezing the temperature was," Levi explains.

"Where is he?" I say with a more stern tone.

"We couldn't save him. He was too far down in the lake for any of us to reach him."

"Liar!" I try to punch his chest but it comes out as merely a small motion of my hand. "You're keeping Father somewhere! Torturing him, probably! You don't want me to find him and rescue him from this hell!"

My legs start shaking violently as I attempt as standing.

Levi grabs my waist and sits me back down.

"Why have you been so affectionate towards me lately? Get your hands off-" I'm cut off by the soft texture of his lips on mine. There's a faint taste on them that's surprisingly pleasant.

He pulls away, his face still expressionless.

"Calm down. You need to rest. You probably inhaled water."

Once Levi gets me to settle down, he brings me a cup of tea. The memories of the hot drink in the Underground makes my nose scrunch up. The tea down there was horrible, and if anyone was lucky enough to find decent grounds, they would easily be snatched away by criminals. Dad stole tea grounds once, but never did it again.

I bring the cup up to my lips and drink it slowly. I'm overwhelmed with the feeling of joy from such a delicious liquid. Everything about it is perfect.

I forget the pain of losing the last of my family, and focus on the man in front of me.

Levi runs a finger through my hair.

I don't know what kind of face I'm making, but when he takes one look into my eyes, he jerks his hand back. His face turns a very light hue of pink.

"You had dirt in your hair, brat," he lies. Levi wipes an escaping tear away, then takes the cup out of my hands, and forces me to chug the rest of it.

I cough after I finish the tea.

"I don't like seeing people cry," he says as he sets the empty glass cup on the small table. "You asked why I am being so tender towards you, am I correct?"

I nod my head, gripping the sheets on my bed tighter as I hold my tears back.

Something catches Levi's attention, because he shuts his mouth quickly and stares at my collarbone.

He then touches the stone in a harsh manner, the back of the chain digging into my flesh. I make a slight noise and glare at the captain.

"Where did you get this from?" he asks.

"My father gave it to me. Now let go!" I shout.

He drops the necklace. "Tch. Take it easy for the rest of the day. Tomorrow you're training with the rest of the cadets. Don't think you get an excuse because of the actions your father took."

Levi leaves the room quickly, slamming the door behind him.

His mood swings are getting on my nerves. Does he care for me? Or do I remind him of someone from time to time?

Levi's POV

I check back in on (Y/n) when the moon is just about to greet the sky.

She's fast asleep. Her back is facing me as I walk in. The blanket that was once covering her is now kicked onto the dirty floor.

"You're even messy when you sleep, brat," I whisper under my breath.

I pick it up and tuck (Y/n) back in, making sure it won't move this time.

Seeing her sleep right in front of me makes me feel strange. She's so peaceful. It's nice not hearing her words of hatred towards me.

A strand of her (h/c) hair falls in front of her face. I slowly move it away, admiring the silky touch of it.

My body moves on its own, climbing into (Y/n)'s bed. I put an arm on her waist and slowly rub my thumb across her stomach.

Dammit.

Since when did I become a pervert?

I stop instantly and move my arms to her chest, holding the brat tightly against my body.

"I remember that I never answered the question," I murmur against her head. "I can't seem to help myself when it comes to you. You're different from everyone else. You spark something in me that only grows. It longs for you. For you to comfort me during stressful times. For you to smile at me when I come back from a mission."

I feel (Y/n) stir underneath my touch.

"I can't stop thinking about you when you're not with me. You're addicting to me."

What's gotten into me? Why can't I stop talking?

"I can't control myself when it comes to you."

"Just spit it out, you pussy," (Y/n) whispers back.

My body freezes.

How long has she been awake? Should I stop touching her?

She turns around to meet my gaze. In the moonlight she's still beautiful.

"I love you, (Y/n)," I confess.

She places her lips on mine softly, making what was supposed to be a quick check-in a sweet, delicate moment. This is her own way of telling me that she feels the same way.

She loves me.
