The Start of Destruction

Chunks of rock from now destroyed buildings crush the thousands of people struggling to run away. I try not to look at the gory sight.

Marleyan soldiers catch me zipping above the crowd. I get a better grasp on the handles of my swords and slice their heads open with ease. I plant my feet on the ground, sliding to a stop.

Eren's giant eyes stare at me for a second. In the moment that I'm frozen, women, men, and children all shove past me. I get pushed aside, hitting a nearby boulder. I continue to watch Eren.

He's not focused on me anymore.

A blinding light appears across from the destructive titan.

A pair of arms snake around my waist and hoist me up into the air.

"This isn't a lights show. You need to move or you won't see anything," Jean tells me. He lets go of me and I use my ODM gear to follow behind him.

I steal a quick glance at the two titans. Eren hardens his knuckles and punches the shit out of the, still transforming, beast.

Jean and I land between two buildings, hidden from any passing Marleyans.

"(Y/n), take these. They're grenades." Connie hands me small weapons. He puts his finger through the safety pin. "Pull this out and throw it as far as you can when necessary."

I nod.

The earth vibrates violently beneath our feet, bringing my attention back to the fight. Eren is now impaled and beheaded, his titan form hanging lifeless. Smoke emerges from the nape, and the man rises out of the giant form.

The gem on my necklace shines near his collarbone. Every thought of being in the middle of a war leaves my mind. I rush toward the fight, feeling the hand of one of my comrades touch my back.

"(Y/n)! No! Come back!" Jean yells.

The tall titan raises its hammer, ready to finish off Eren.

Mikasa reaches him before I can, and carries him to safety.

I then realize the trouble I'm in: the titan's eyes were no longer on Eren, but instead aiming for me.

I'm snatched away by Floch before its weapon hits me.

He takes me back to the building where Jean now stands alone.

"We've got him. Don't go fucking the plan up now," Floch says.

"Jean," I hear Connie's voice call from the other side, "we stalled the reinforcements."

"The lights?" Jean asks.

"They're all in place," Sasha answers.

Not even a second later, Eren is back in his titan form, digging his fingers in a pile of rubble. He pulls out a crystal, detaching the cord connected to it. The white titan collapses instantly.

"What is he doing?" I question.

He unhinges his jaw, preparing to eat the crystal whole. Eren's head is suddenly turned to the side, a smaller titan lunges on him and sinks its teeth into his nape.

"Eren!" Mikasa screams from another building.

Without thinking, I jump off the roof, feeling my own blood boil with rage. I slice one part of the titan's jaw, hearing the same sound on the other side.

I do a double-take, meeting familiar, exhausted eyes.

I fly through a window, glass shards scatter about the room. Not fazed by the scratches, I lean outward, checking around for Levi. He makes eye contact with me from the roof of the building I was just at. Cadets gather behind him, swords and thunder spears and grenades in hands.

"Don't die on me," Levi says to his soldiers. "Survive!"
