March 2nd.

I'm jerked awake by a knock on my door. Before my eyes are fully open, I feel the heat from the sun lurking through my windows.

"Come in" I say, with a tinge of regret. I just wish I wouldn't have to be bothered when I'm feeling like this.

The door slowly opens. David's soft face greets me.

"Hey, Sam. You feelin' OK?"

"I'm fine."

"Are you sure about that?" he asks me, knowing I'm kinda full of shit. "Because it's 3:07 in the afternoon and you just woke up."

I quickly grab my phone and glance at the time. He's right. Shit. I set my phone down.

David walks in, closing the door behind him. He sits down at the end of my bed.

"What's bothering you?"

I take a deep breath. "Is it OK if I say I don't wanna talk about it, right now?"

He lets out a sigh. "You always don't wanna talk about it."

"That's because I'm not usually ready whenever someone asks. You have to understand that."

He gives me a half-smile. "I'm sorry. I understand."

"Where's mom and dad?"

"They're at work, but they told me they would grab some dinner on the way home. They mentioned about wanting to talk to you about something."

I roll my eyes. "Are you serious?"

"It's not bad, that I can promise you."

"So what is it, then?"

"They asked me not to tell you until tonight."

"Am I getting locked up?"

"You know I don't like you talking about it like that. And no, you're not getting locked up. Sent away. Shot off. Whatever the hell you wanna call it."

I'll admit, that made me smile.

"I can promise you, though, it's not as bad as whatever you can think of."

"Okay."

He stands up and goes to the door. He stops and turns around. "Aren't you gonna get your ass outta bed and come watch 'Real Housewives'?"

"I hate that show" I say.

"So do I, but shit TV is so much better when you feel like shit."

He has such a valid point, it's not even funny. I say nothing, slowly peel back my sheets and crawl out of bed.

"That's what I thought."

After a solid two hours pass by, we're both on the couch engrossed in the drama of these women. It's probably fake, anyway, but it's too captivating for us to turn it off. David turns to look at me.

"You ok?"

I just give him a nod.

Not soon after, we hear the door open.

"Hey, hey, hey, we're home." That's dad. We turn around and see both him and mom walk in wih bags of fast food. We normally get Taco Bell whenever they want to have a night out or handle a serious talk. They did it when we found out COVID was hitting, but that was the last time they had a real "talk" talk with us. Now, I'm in the hot seat. At least, I think it's a hot seat. I don't know. I just want to know what it is so this bubble in my stomach can go away.

"Anyone hungry?" Mom asks.

At first we don't say anything, because we know where it's going.

"Anyone?" Dad asks.
