Grace opened her eyes and nearly fell back, dice caught her as she moved back and looked, actually looked around in panic. "Wh-what is...What is this?" She asked, not really understanding what was going on. Was this vision? Could she see now?! Her right eye was still an endless void of darkness but her left, her left was bombarded by light and color and movement that she couldn't comprehend.
The man before her which she quickly understood to be dice moved to pull her face against his chest. "It's ok. Close your eyes. You're ok." He said, moving to pick her up as he stood and she nodded, pushing her face tightly against him, closing her eyes so she couldn't see a thing.
Dice turned his gaze up to the devil. "Why? Why do that to her? She doesn't know what vision is." He barked.
The devil laughed and shrugged, "precicely. It'll be most entertaining to watch her learn to coup with this big world around her. Especially with some of your special gifts." He explained, folding his hands behind his back.
Dice resisted a snarl and instead lifted the bag of coins that grace had won that day from the table. What could possibly be entertaining about watching this girl learn to coup with his vision? He didn't recall dealing with it himself to be very entertaining. It had been terrifying and painful and he had actually been able to see before those powers were "gifted" to him.
"Take your little girlfriend home dice. Save the day and carry her home." The Devil taunted.
Dice snarled under his breath and opened his mouth to snap back at the boss but when he tensed Grace whimpered and nuzzled against him. "Mr. Dice... please take me out of here..." She pleaded, afraid to move from his arms.
Dice sighed bit nodded, "I'm gonna take you home. It'll be ok." He said before turning away from satan who chuckled behind them as dice carried grace away.
"Good luck with that new eye little one. I'm certain you'll be seeing things far clearer than before!" Satan called after them.
Once outside dice flagged down a cab and slid grace inside before climbing in after her and pulling her to his chest again, rubbing his hand up and down her back as she trembled in his arms.
"Just relax grace. You're ok." He encouraged.
She took a deep breath and slowly sat back off him, drying tears from her still closed eyes. "I'm sorry Mr. Dice. I'm so sorry."
"Don't be sorry darlin. That's what happens to those who gamble in that casino. I made the same mistake once." He said, brushing some hair from her face.
"What did he even do to me? I dont... can I actually see now? I'm so confused."
Dice sighed and took her hands in his. "He gave you one of my eyes and gave me one of yours. You can see now... I'm sure that it's a lot to process but it'll all be ok. I'm gonna help you." He assured
"Why? Why are you being so kind to me? I have nothing I can give you in return. You even got hurt because of me!"
He bit his lip. The Devil was right. He did have a savior complex. He wasn't sure when it began but he knew it was there and for some reason this broken little lady really brought it out strong in him. "Because you need the help. Because with my eyes I can see your soul. Its a pure and good soul. Your deepest desire is to know your mother and help your father. You're not selfish even though you feel like you are... I can't stand seeing that."
She sniffled a little, unable to truly believe that this man was just that selfless. She of course had known many kind and selfless people over her life but... never to this degree. Slowly she lifted her face towards him and opened her eyes, it was nearly sunset outside the car and so many things were moving and blurring together that she almost felt sick from it so she focused her gaze as best she could on the man before her. She had no real idea what she was looking at but...He was lovely to her. He had been the first thing she had seen before and now, now that she wasn't panicked she could appreciate how unique he seemed.
He smiled at her eyes opening at looking at him. Her cheeks turning red as she inspected his face. "Well? How does it feel?" He asked.
She smiled a small smile and reached up to touch his face, the way she would have to see what he would look like before she could actually see. "You're so handsome..." She whispered in awe.
His cheeks turned a bright lavender color and her eyes widened as he finger tips moved over the color. "This is the color I'd seen in my dream... what's it called?"
He blushed harder, his heart hammering in his chest. Had she dreamt of him? He briefly wondered what a blind persons dreams consisted of before he shook his head and answered. "Lavander or purple."
"Purple...I was right. I.... I like this color." She said, her own cheeks turning a deeper rosy red.
He placed his hand on her cheek to caress the color there. "I like this color. Red. Rosy red." He said gently, making her smile shyly as the cab came to a stop.
"Ok love birds. Here you are. That'll be 34 coins." The gruff taxi driver said, clearly wanting them out of his car.
Dice chuckled and handed him the 34 plus a tip before helping grace out of the car and he looked up at her little home...
