"W-win it back? You mean gamble? That's kinda what got us into this mess. Besides... I can't see. How could I play?" She said, folding her arms gently over her chest, hugging herself.
"I could help you. The craps table is all luck so you don't have to see to play and with me there the dealer would be honest with you." He assured, a bit unsure about why he so desperately wanted to help this sweet girl out of her situation.
She bit her lip and tapped her foot nervously. "But why would you help me? Isn't it your job to make more money for the casino?"
Dice blushed a bit, "Well yes but... tomorrow is my day off. If you come back then I wouldn't be working. Therefore I could help you." He said, dancing around the reason for his generous behaviour.
She did notice he didn't answer her question of why he would help her but... how could she say no? Losing that five gold would make very little difference in the long run of it all anyway so even if he was just trying to get the last coin out of her it was worth a shot. "Ok... I'll come back tomorrow." She said with a warm little smile that melted Dice's heart.
"I look forward to it darlin." He said warmly as she held out her arms for her father. "Please, let me call you a cab. On me."
She blinked, stunned by his generous offer. "You don't have to do that Mr. Dice." She said gently.
"I insist. It's far too late for a young pretty thing like you to be walking home while tending to a drunk. You could get hurt." He said lifting his free hand in the air towards the street and whistling, "taxi!" He called and a bright yellow cab pulled up beside them. He loaded up the drunken man in the back seat before looking down at her and stepping out of her way.
"It has been a pleasure to meet you my dear. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow." He said as he took her hand and guided her into the seat next to her father.
She smiled at him, enjoying the feeling of his hand in hers. "You're too kind Mr. Dice. Thank you so much." She said sweetly before he kissed the top of her hand and closed the door. He paid the cabbie well and told him to take them wherever she wanted to go before he watched the cab speed off into the night with the most lovely girl he had ever seen.Upon arriving home the cabbie helped Grace carry her father to the door before he departed and she carried him inside and laid him on the sofa with a sigh. He was out cold now which was a bit of a relief. At least that meant she didn't have to tend to him in a drunken state.
She moved to sit in the chair across from him and put her head in her hands. If ahe didn't win anything tomorrow what was she going to do? They'd be homeless. How would they survive? How would SHE? She was blind! What would she do if she was on the streets?!
She rubbed her eyes tiredly before sitting back and sighing, rubbing her knuckles where the smoothtalking man had kissed and her cheeks heated up, thinking back on it. He had been so happy to help her and so kind to her. She couldn't make sense of it. Was he like that with everyone? Did he just pity her for her disability? No. It didn't feel like pity. It felt warm. Warm like his hand in hers as he helped her into the car. Warm like his lips on her knuckles as he kissed them goodbye. Warm like his arm under her touch as he lead her through the chaos of the casino. Warm like him.She soon dozed off to sleep, thinking of him and dreaming in her own way. It was mostly swirls of what she believed to be colors, mixed with sounds that everyone would hear in their dreams and the sounds she heard were Mr. Dice's voice and the swirls she saw, she felt like the color they were would be called purple. It looked like it would be called that. It was a fun looking color that pulsed and danced as it made his voice echo from it in her endless void of darkness.
"Grace... darlin don't listen to him." The purple said.
"What? To who?" She asked, her own voice echoing in the voice.
"Him." It said before disappearing and before her grew a huge mass of color that she could only call red. It was huge and angry and it let out a loud demonic growl before rushing forward towards her and she screamed.
She yelled as she sat up straight in her chair and clutched her chest in panic. Her heart hammering under her own hand. She had never had a dream like that.
