Dice slipped a protective arm around Grace's shoulders and smiled tightly up at his boss, the devil himself. He towered over dice and grace and pretty much everyone else in the casino. He knew why his boss was there. He wished he had gotten Grace out of there sooner but she had been having so much fun he didn't want her to stop smiling the way she had been, all bubbly and giddy with the fact that she was saving her home and father.
He watched as his boss reached a clawed hand out to brush a stray hair from Grace's face and she moved closer his side, clinging to him as the creature she didn't know touched her face with his cold sharp feeling claw.
Her moving closer did make Dice swell inside with joy that she found comfort in him and she seemed to trust him to protect her, though he knew he would never win in a fight with his boss.
"This is Ms. Grace. A new friend of mine sir. We were just leaving actually." Dice said, trying to pull the devils attention off his little companion.
The devil smirked down at him and raised an eyebrow, "Oh? And what's the rush. It seems Ms. Grace is having excellent luck after all. Why not make it more interesting?"
"Sir i..." Dice began to protest but he was cut off as the devil held up a hand to silence him.
"What do you say my dear? One more roll. If you win I'll grant you any wish your little heart desires. If I win I get to have your pretty little soul. Deal?" He asked, smiling a sinister grin down at Grace that made dice shiver. It was like watching a hungry lion eye an injured gazelle and here dice was, powerless to stop his boss.
Grace swallowed hard at the offer, feeling the way dice shifted uncomfortably next to her made her pause to think about this deal for a moment. Any wish she wanted? What would she even wish for? She wondered briefly if this man could allow her to meet her mother? Did the devil even have that much power? No... surely not. Besides the odds were stacked against her at this point. She was so close on the amount of money surely if she gave that to the bank they'd accept it with good faith right?
"I don't think that's a wise bet to take sir. I'm sorry." She said, causing a few people who had gathered to watch the display to gasp. They d never seen someone say no to a deal with the devil before.
Dice was even stunned, turning to look down at her in stunned silence. She said no. How had she said no?! The boss was never told no!
The devil seemed a bit stunned as well, moving to stand up straight, his thick black fur puffing out in agitation. How had his magic not worked. No mortal was supposed to be able to resist his unholy charms... but wait. She was blind. No wonder then. They couldn't hold eye contact and that was important for such things.
He seemed to relax as he realized why she was able to resist him and he pulls a cigar out of thin air, already lit and he puts it to his lips.
"How about this then? One more roll. If you win you get a wish. If you lose then I get one. No soul required."
"You get one? What wish could I grant you?" She asked, confused.
"Oh I'd still be the one performing the magic my dear but it would be something I'd need your permission to do. Do we have a deal?"
She was quiet for a moment again. Well...He didn't want her soul and how bad could his wish honestly be?
"I... I suppose that seems fair. Deal then." She said, holding out her hand and the devil smiled widely as dice cringed and looked away as the two shook hands. He couldn't watch this. He couldn't stand watching this lovely girl fall victim to Satan and his twisted pleasures of torture on mortals such as her. He didn't mind it when it was done to a greet soul or someone who deserved to go to hell but to do it on a pure soul like her... It was sadistic.
The Devil's hand was cold in Grace's and she shuddered at the touch, dice rubbed his hand up and down her arm when the chill ran down her spine.
"Roll away then my dear. Let's see what happens." The Devil said with a dark chuckle that made a pit form in her stomach. She reached and felt around for the dice on the table before clutching them to her chest nervously. Could she still back out? No. No she had to do this. She could get anything she could ever want if she won... maybe the devil could even make her father stop gambling or that they would own their home and never have to worry about the bank taking it away again...
She closed her eyes and took a breath. The darkness before her of course staying the same with her eyes open or shut but it felt more comfortable to shut them now as she prayed for some luck to be on her side and she threw the dice out onto the table. They bounced around and made lovely little thudding sounds as they rolled for a short moment before they came to a stop just in front of Phear...
