Grace decided to keep her eyes closed on the short walk from the street up to her home. Moving and looking made her feel a bit sick without a still object in front of her. How did people do this? Seeing was nauseating.
Dice opened the door when she handed him her key and helped her inside.
"Daddy? Daddy are you here?" She called out as she clung to dice's arm.
Her father stepped around the corner of their kitchen. "Grace? Oh Grace I was so... worried... King Dice?" He looked on at the two of them stunned. He knew who dice was, they'd talked before a couple times but... why was he here? Why was he with his daughter?
Gracie smiled, relieved to hear her father's voice as she moved from dice to her father and hugged him, his arms protectivly snaking around her. "Grace. What's going on? Where have you been? You know I don't like you going outside on your own... why are you with King Dice?"
Her smile turned a little sheepish, "well... You see, I went to the casino after you last night. You'd been gone for three days and I needed you and... and Mr. Dice helped me find you. You'd spent all our money again and the bank was gonna take our house so... while you were sleeping I went back today and won it back." She explained, making sure to keep her eyes shut.
Her father looked at her in shock, taking her shoulders in his hands before smiling down at her and brushing some hair from her face. "God grace... You're so much like your mother. You just.... You just fix everything don't you?" He said, guilt dripping in with the pride in his voice.
She placed a hand on his cheek. "I do what I have to daddy... but I couldn't have done this without Mr. Dice." She said before turning to smile over at dice.
Dice blushed a little. "You raised a wonderful young woman sir." He said, his his eye shining at her.
Her father looked between the two and raised an eyebrow, not entirely fond of the look dice gave his princess but... He had helped them. He couldn't be rude. "Thank you. And thank you for helping her and seeing her home. We don't have much but would you like to join us for dinner?"
Grace beamed, "Oh yes! Please stay Mr. Dice!" She said, moving back to dice and taking his hand in both of her, opening her eyes now that her father couldn't see them.
Dice smiled down at her and sighed, how could he say no to that face?
"I'd be happy to." He said warmly.Grace and her father went about preparing dinner together, dice offering to help occasionally but the two insisted on doing it themselves.
Dinner was just noodles with some butter and a small side of veggies but it was still a decent meal that dice was greatful to partake it. It had been a good long while since he had had a home cooked meal.
After the meal Gracie and Dice went about clearing the dishes and washing them together, standing hip to hip at the sink. "Do you plan on telling your Dad about what happened?" Dice asked softly as he dried a dish she handed him.
She sighed as she scrubbed another plate under the warm soapy water. "I wanna wait as long as I can so I don't worry him... at least until I know how the whole seeing thing works a little better." She admitted. "Till then he'd just be more worried about me than he usually is."
Dice nodded slowly, watching her hand swirl the dish sponge repeatedly over the plate under the water, her mind clearly not on the task in her hands and he sighed, moving to take the dish gently and rinse it for her.she blushed, feeling his hands over hers. "I'm understand. Being half blind will take some getting used to for even me. I can't imagine what it's gonna be like for you... but don't you worry. I'll be here to help guide you. I'll be your seeing eye dice!" He said brightly.
She looked up at him, smiling as if she were trying not to laugh but quickly failed at that and started giggling, pressing her face to his chest to hide her giggle and smile.
He beamed and wrapped his arms around her, laughing himself. Her laugh was such a bright sound. It made his soulless heart ache.
As her giggles died out she pulled back a bit but dice kept his arms around her, looking down at her as she gazed up at him. It was odd seeing his own eye on someone else's face but it looked cute on her, having two strange eyes. He couldn't help but smile.
She blushed at the way he looked at her, she never would have known that's how he looked at her before, she wondered why he was so fond of her, and her of him. It felt like they'd been friends for years, the way he just held her and joked with her and made her laugh. It was such a nice and welcome feeling in her otherwise dull and pointless life.
"Thank you Mr. Dice. For everything. You're too kind." She whispered.
He smirked, "only to those who deserve it my dear. Only to those who deserve it." He whispered.
