Pregnant

You gulp as two pink lines appear on the screen of the pregnancy test. Your suspicions were right. You and Nico were going to have a baby.

You hadn’t planned for a baby yet, but you saw some of the signs, like the backaches, constant tiredness and craving, so with Nico working late in the Underworld for a week, you left work early to come home and take the test.

How long you stared at the test, you didn’t know but your heart was racing from excitement and apprehension at Nico’s reaction by the time you came out of the little trance those pink lines had on you.

Your eyes started to blur, but what if Nico didn’t want a child yet? Were the two of you even ready for this? How were you going to protect him or her?

You started to panic with all these thoughts clouding you head. You quickly threw the test in the bin before getting out of the small bathroom.

You needed some air.

You walked into your living room and opened a window then headed to the kitchen to make yourself something to drink.

With your mug in hand you leaned on the kitchen counter trying to figure out how you were going to tell Nico.

You thought about waiting for a while before telling him. Nico had been a bit stressed, helping him father handle matters in the Underworld, you didn’t want to drop the bomb now, what if he got even more stressed?

You let yourself think about Nico being a dad, putting your child to sleep singing one of his Italian lullabies, or him feeding your child getting baby food. You laughed out loud at the thought of Nico giving the baby a shower.

Maybe everything would be ok.

5 days.

That’s how many days it’s been since you found out that you were pregnant. You still hadn’t told Nico and it was agony, but you just hadn’t found the right time to do it.

You had just gotten ready for bed, walking out of the bathroom you saw Nico sitting on the bed nose buried in a book.

You got in with him, hugging his torso head buried in his side. You felt him chuckle as he put the book down and lying down next to you.

Nico kisses your cheek before placing a kiss on your lips, soft and slow as you heard a happy hum at the back of his throat making you feel giddy. He places a hand on you stomach, making your heart skip a beat.

He pulls back when he feels you stiffen ‘Are you alright (y/n)?’

You open your mouth to say yes but change your mind, it was now or never ‘Nico.’

His eyes widen in concern ‘Yes?’   

‘I…do you think this place is, missing something?’

‘Like what?’ he looked cute confused

‘Oh I don’t know, a dog, or a fish or a new sofa, maybe…a child.’ You whisper the last word.

‘A what?’

‘A child.’

‘A child, sur-‘eyes wide Nico sits up in a flash looking down at you. ‘Did you just say…child?’

You nod looking up at the Ghost King a small smile on your lips.

‘I’m going to be a dad.’ He says trying out those words ‘I’m going to be a dad.’ Nico bounces on the bed with joy before gathering you up on his lap, repeating the same sentences over and over.

You laughed with excitement and relief. ‘When did you find out?’

‘Uh, 5 days ago.’

‘And you didn’t tell me?’

You look down ‘I was scared you wouldn’t want this yet.’ 

Nico cups your cheeks, causing you to look at him ‘I really want this.’

‘Me too.’

‘We’re going to be parents!’ you could feel the excitement and happiness bubbling up inside of you as you kissed him hard and passionate, all your emotions flooding out in that one kiss.

You give out a shaky laugh as you pull away relief washing over you. You cup the sides of his face, running your fingers lightly over his stubble. ‘You’ll be a great dad.’

‘We will be great parents.’

i know this one took a while (sorry) but my sister's leaving to Uni on Monday and i'm trying to spend every moment i can with her before she leaves.
