Hey! Where are you taking-" The Leader yelled from somewhere behind her, breaking whatever spell the man had Kaenisa under.
Coming to her senses, she blinked rapidly, squeezing her eyes shut before looking away, unsure of how to feel or what to focus on.
The fact that she had been kidnapped by men who claimed to be from a world that was only supposed to exist in myths.
Or being brought to that place, which by the way, did actually exist and that too, against her will, for some god-damned reason that she could not, for the life of her, figure out.
Was she supposed to mull over as to why the person standing before her possessed autumn-gold eyes nearly identical to hers?
Oh, and how could she forget being hauled to god knows where, to suffer some fate worse than a lab rat.
"General." The Leader spoke with such obedience in his tone that she almost couldn't believe this was the same person who had been tyrannizing them all day.
Kaenisa whipped her head, to look at the people behind her. All three of whom were standing with their head lowered, a hand over their heart.
'Bowing.' She realized.
"Answer him." The man before her said with a voice every bit as compelling as it was commanding.
He seemed to steal all the air in the room, an exigent presence. His face was a mask of neutrality, an armour or shield, she could not tell.
There was an unquestionable air of mystery to him, a certain wisdom in his daunting eyes.
But this time, his intimidating stare was not directed towards her. No. Its victim seemed to be a man with skin, the colour of dull iron and hair as white as clouds on a sunny day.
"The subject...uh....was...err...critical an-and we barely managed to revive her. So we...we were just taking her to the medical wing for further observa-" He stammered while the other fellow, wearing a similar white coat began to back up.
Wait.
Kaenisa was the subject, wasn't she? But...but she felt completely fine!
Well...almost.
"I think we both know, Dr. Stelin," The man who, if she remembered correctly, was referred to as The General, said, looming over the doctor as he stepped closer, looking like the embodiment of impending doom, "What you were doing was clearly not that. Because, if I am correct, the medical ward is down there. Not through here."
Kaenisa saw the fear gleaming within the man's eyes, almost felt it radiating off him and in his defence, if it had been her, The General had pinned down with that stare, she would be scared too.
Very much so.
"Detain him." He ordered to, as it seemed at the moment, no one in particular. But then, a second later two figures, clad from head to toe in the deepest onyx, materialized into the hallway, out of thin air.
They were what Kaenisa would describe as the epithet of truth.
With obsidian robes flowing around them like celestial bodies in the cosmos, leaving only a purple glow where the eyes should have been, their presence was time-stopping.
The beings seemed to leech all of the light from the surrounding until you couldn't help but focus on just them.
They drifted forward, grabbing both of the men who were, from what she had understood, taking her to somewhere she wouldn't have liked.
