Fuck.

This was bad.

And the worst part was that it was one hundred per cent their fault.

"Well, isn't that just what we needed." Zaira scowled as the boys came up behind them.

And one of them was Rolan.

Sarina simply wanted to go back to her room and bawl her eyes out until there were no more tears.

He had been the one thing that had kept her from literally crumbling. And now, there was nothing. There was no one to keep her from falling into the never-ending abyss of those thoughts that hit her in the middle of the night.

No one would tell her it was going to be alright when she felt like she couldn't breathe.

So what was she supposed to do now? How was Sarina supposed to hold on to her sanity through all the insane things that were happening to her?

Because the chain to her only anchor had become rusty while she'd been too naive to check. And now that it was broken, Sarina couldn't help but feel like a ship lost at sea.

"We need to teleport there." Zaic urged.

"But....we don't have any weapons." Kaenisa said.

They were at an impasse here. The city...or at least a part of it, was burning and from what she could understand, the men General had sent to look for the mutants that they had failed to eradicate, could not do it either.

Because there was just no way that it was all just a coincidence.

But somehow....Sarina couldn't bring herself to care.

She simply wanted to disappear.

No.

She wanted to go home. To her real home where she could simply be with her parents without any worries and hang out with Carissa. She'd go to the park and draw to her heart's content.

She wanted to go home, where she wouldn't have to deal with all....this.

Sarina never wanted to be a hero. She wanted no part in saving the world. It was a destiny they had forced onto her.

"I'll call for backup." Deimos sighed, stepping aside.

"Yeah but its not like we can sit back and enjoy the view till they get here now can we?" Zaira grumbled, "I only have my scythe. And it would be suicide to go there without any proper weapons."

"Sarina has her gun and I have my daggers." Kaenisa informed.

"I've got my gun as well." Zaic added.

"Me too." Deimos joined in.

"What if we had other weapons?" Rolan countered.

"Then we'd not be having this discussion, nitwit." The princess jeered.

Before today, Sarina would have laughed and defended him and he would have complained about how Zaira was always picking on him.

But now.....now things were different. They were all twisted up and she didn't know what to do anymore.

"Follow me." Rolan said before going back into the building.

—————

Precisely seven minutes later, they found themselves standing right in the middle of the havoc.

Kaenisa and the rest had followed Rolan, who had revealed a hidden stash of guns, claiming that it had been for protection or, a source of extra money if he'd ever need one to escape.
