Trigger warning

The hospital felt different usually she felt a rush of adrenaline except this time she felt frightened and intimidated. Her hands shook with fear. Miranda walked by the cooridors of the hospital where Meredith refused to let Derek move her. She was a rock, unable to move. Every time she got the courage to let Derek pushed down on the wheel to stop him. She was slowly remembering bits and pieces of him which scared the hell out of her. Yet had trouble knowing her kids names. She reached her hand behind to hold Derek's. "I think I am ready."

"You think or you know?" He asked worried.

"Just go before I change my mind." She confirmed as Derek planted a kiss on her cheek.

He pushed the chair to the cafeteria and pulled up a chair next to Meredith. Alex walked in by a giant man with ebony skin. She shivered. Derek placed a hand on her thigh and grabbed her hand with the other. Her face was flushed of all color and eyes were red with tears rimming the edges. The man walked towards their table with two children by his side. He sat down and stared at her while she stared at her hands.

"I am so sorry I would have never done what I did," He paused. "If I had known." He scanned the room only to be met with Meredith's glossy eyes. A tear rolled down her face in the blink of an eye. If you blinked it would be easily missed as she didn't enjoy being vulnerable. Derek brushed the blonde tendrils out of her face before she choked out. "I know."

"This is my daughter Anne and my daughter Evalyen." He said pointing to the two children. "Do you have any kids?" he questioned. Meredith being too shy and frightened to speak held up two fingers. Derek tapped her hand and held up three fingers under the table. "Oh um, three.." Her voice trailed off. "May I be excused?" She asked quietly. Derek tried to follow her but was let down by Meredith shaking her head. He was then awkwardly left alone with Lou as his wife had took his kids. "I would have never.." Lou spoke to be cut off by Derek raising his voice at the man. "Oh yeah, you've said that plenty of times. My wife doesn't even remember her own children because of you! She looks to me to see if any of her answers are wrong like it's a pop quiz. Do you want to know what I did on our anniversary? I found her in a hotel room with her arms slit open in attempt to end her life. She has spent three months being in critical pain. You don't get to feel bad. You don't get her to forgive you." His face turned over to Meredith entering the cafeteria with tears reentering her eyes; she then turned her back and wheeled herself back out of the room. "God damn it." Derek said slamming the table.

He walked briskly to the hall to see Bailey comforting Meredith. "Now what the hell were you thinking?" She asked before clipping his head. "That's for being so damn stupid Shepherd, if you excuse me, I have some pre-ops to check on." She left the two alone. Meredith wiped her tears. "I know you were protecting me Der." She began to spit out. "But you can't just yell at someone who didn't know what they were doing. It's not okay. At all." Derek bowed his head. "I know." She sighed. "Why don't you have Amelia bring the kids?" She tried to distract him.

Meredith got out of the wheel chair and stumbled her way back to the cafeteria. She sat herself down by Lou and grabbed his hand. "I forgive you." She spoke while looking in his eyes to prove she meant it. "I was upset and I mean extremely furious with you but, you didn't know. How am I going to be upset with someone that didn't. Derek.." She froze. "My husband doesn't understand. He is so entirely angry any of this happened. He needs someone to be mad at and he can't be mad at me because, he can't be mad at someone who's sick. I am so sorry that he did that you I-" Lou interrupted her. "You shouldn't be the one apologizing."

Meredith turned her head to see Derek holding Ellis. "I should go."

She basically tripped her way out the door before sitting in a wheelchair. She extended her arms to Derek reaching for Ellis. She cradled the adorable child in her arms. "Hi Ellie-Bell." She smiled followed by Derek grinning that his wife was slowly collecting the pieces to her own life. He pushed the wheel chair to the daycare and then made his way outside the hospital doors. Meredith's memories were coming back to her.

"Lou you need to lay down. Lou."

"Blood it's just blood Meredith."

Meredith tapped Derek before they got to the car. "You should take her, I really don't feel well." She said. He took Ellis out of her arms in a heartbeat. "What happened? Are you okay?" He frowned. "Yeah, can we just go home please?"

Tap.

"You don't have to be afraid Meredith, it's just blood."

"You need to get back on the bed Lou."

"Mer?" he asked her quietly.

"Just stop Derek. I am not some diseased kid who you have chained in the basement, so stop treating me like one. I don't need you to protect me."

"Obviously you do." He said pointing to her wrists. He immediately regretted his choice of words. He was just infuriated with the past year.

"Wow. That's how it's gonna be. Fuck you Derek." She lifted herself off the wheelchair.

"That's not what I meant." She stumbled her way back to the hospital. "Where are you going?"

Instead of a response he got her flipping him off as she walked into the front two doors of the hospital.
