Eddie's POV:I had just arrived home from my fight, it was another night without Chris since he was at a sleepover. Tonight was a little more intense than previous nights but not awful. I took my keys out and unlocked the front door. I walked inside and turned the light on, immediately I dropped my bag and rushed to Sam's unconscious body. "Sam?!" I turned her so she was lying on her back and checked her pulse from instinct and it was a steady rhythm, her face was bruised badly and she was bleeding. "Oh my god," I muttered and lifted her carefully into my arms, moved back towards my truck, and got her buckled into the backseat so she could lay down. I then drove to the hospital, what the hell happened?
When we arrived, I pulled her out of the backseat and carried her inside, I quickly went over to the receptionist. She gasped upon seeing Sam and called a nurse to help. I was led to a room and set Sam down on the bed. I grabbed ahold of her hand and started to tear up. As a nurse with blonde hair came into the room and looked taken aback but I didn't recognize her. The nurse took Sam from the room and I was left there alone.
Some time passed and a police officer walked in. "Sir, can you tell me your name?"
"Eddie Diaz, I work with the 118 fire department."
"Always good to meet a fellow first responder. So what happened here?"
"I got home and my girlfriend was lying on the floor unconscious. I don't know how she got there or what happened. I had a late shift and she doesn't live with me yet."
"Was her car there?"
"No, she can't drive. She strained her ACL."
"Do you know of anyone that would want to harm her?"
"No, I can't think of anyone."
"Does she have family?"
"I contacted them," or I will. Later.
"Good, what is her name? I'm going to put an investigation together to find out who did this to her and why,"
"Her name is Samantha Buckley. Thank you for helping her out. When can I see her?"
"Soon, she is in surgery right now."
"Wait what? Why?"
"You mentioned her ACL was strained, right?"
"Yeah,"
"It snapped."
I screwed my eyes shut. "Shit,"
"Wait here, she should be back in about an hour,"
"Thank you. If you need any help, please call me. I'd be glad to come to the station to talk."
"Sounds good, take care, Diaz."
"You too, Sir."

When Sam was brought back into the room, my heart sank again. Her face was swollen and she looked like she was in pain, but she still looked gorgeous. The nurse who brought Sam back was different than the one who took her to surgery; she looked at me, "She is going to experience some trauma from this, I see in her records that she was a part of the tsunami too. She's going to more than likely experience some horrific nightmares. She has bruising on her ribs, neck, and hips. Her ACL was also snapped but it doesn't appear that it was holding on by much. She also seems to have a minor concussion that should be gone within the next week or so,"
"Thank you," She nodded and walked out. I looked at my sweet girl and kissed her forehead. "Sam, I'm so sorry that this happened to you. I promise I will never let anyone hurt you again. I am sworn to help you get through this, I have never felt so much pain compared to when I saw you lying there unconscious. I thought you were dead. Sam, I'm not ready for you to leave me and I don't think I ever will be. It's you and me until the end. I swear it, you're my everything and I would never do anything to hurt you, I will never cheat on you, or lie to you. I love you, Sammy." My cheeks heated up, saying it out loud means you're admitting it. Sam and I have yet to say the 'L' word but I meant it. "I'm going to find out who did this to you and why," I was listening to the beeps of her heart monitor, even back in the Army, I don't think anything frightened me like this. Sure, there were tons of firefights, but that's a different type of fear, and it's covered by adrenaline. I stood up and went to step out of her room to see a nurse peering through the glass, "Hey?" I questioned her.
"Sorry, I haven't officially met you yet, but based on your appearance, I have to assume that you're Eddie?" She questioned.
I nodded slowly, "Yeah, and you are?"
"I'm Nic, Sam's my best friend,"
I smiled faintly, "You're the infamous, Nic, huh? Sam has told me a lot about you. I'm happy to finally meet you but I wish it were under different circumstances,"
"Agreed," Nic said, she had kind eyes and she reminded me of Sam.
"I was going to make a call, if you wanted to check on her?"
Nic smiled faintly, "Thank you,"
I nodded and started pacing as I called Buck, "Hello?"
"Hey, I need you to come to the hospital,"
"What's going on? Is everyone okay?"
"Sam is here. Something happened,"
"Okay, I'll call Maddie. I'm on my way."
"Okay, hurry," I replied and the call went dead.
I ran my hands through my hair and was beyond stressed out. I grabbed my coat and walked to where the hallway meets the lobby, I then paced until Buck walked in. He walked over to me and I grabbed him by his shirt and gave him a stern look, "Hey! What the hell, Eddie?"
"What the hell happened? Where did she go last night?"
"Last night? She was out with me and the 118."
"Where?"
"The rage room,"
"The rage room? You took her to a rage room?! Her knee is fucked up! Why would you do that?"
"Because she was hurting and needed to get out of the house. It was your fault. Where did you find her anyway?"
"Find her?" I asked. "She was at my house,"
"She was? She must have called a cab, she disappeared halfway through the night."
I let go of Buck, "I'm sorry,"
I went to walk away when Buck grabbed my arm, "What's that bruise from?"
I set a hand on my cheek and winced. I pulled my arm from his grasp and started walking, "She's in room 213." I made it to my truck and slammed my hands on the steering wheel, I drove off to the rage room. I wasn't sure what I was going to find, but there would be hell to pay when I found out.
