Sam's POV:July 1st, 2020
•I-I'm going to be sick. I can't do this•
~~~
I woke up and felt like a weight was set on my chest. I looked around the bright room, I took my eyes some time to adjust but I was able to see. Someone was trying to talk to me but I couldn't hear what they were saying. I felt a light tug on my arm, I tried to move my head but everything seemed to be moving in slow motion. The only thing I could hear clearly was the faint beep from the heart monitor.
I locked eyes with someone, I squinted to try and recognize the face, "Sam?"
"Nic?" I whispered.
"Hey, how are you feeling?"
"Sore, what happened?"
She rubbed my arm, "You were in a wreck, there were kids out street raising and they hit you. All four of their cars and your own ended up totaled. Police have taken them into custody."
I shut my eyes and was trying to remember what happened, "Where's my sister?"
"She's here, and so is Evan."
"A-and Eddie?"
"He's a mess,"
I nodded, "Am I going to be okay?"
"You are going to be perfectly fine,"
Something in her eyes worried me, "What about my baby?"
"I can't answer that, our ultrasound broke, I'm waiting on one that is coming in from San Francisco."
I squeezed my eyes shut, "How bad is the damage?"
"Fractured collarbone, a few broken ribs, and some nasty cuts and bruises, but other than that, you're alright."
I drew my eyebrows together, "Nic, why do you have a mask on?"
She was about to answer when the door opened. "Hey, Sammy."
"Conrad? Hey,"
"How are you doing?"
"I'm okay," He had a mask on too, "What's going on?"
"Have you heard anything about the Coronavirus?"
"Yeah, they had a minor outbreak in China, right?"
"Yeah, well in the past few days, that minor outbreak has turned into a global outbreak."
"What do you mean?"
"Sam, the virus is in the United States, the first case was in Washington."
"How many cases are there now?"
"Over 100,"
I let out a deep breath, "What does this mean?"
"It means, everyone needs to be way more careful, masks need to be worn at all times and hospitals are going to get flooded with people."
I nodded, "When can I get out of here?"
"As soon as we get that ultrasound here. I will go get your family."
"Okay," My anxiety just spiked, this is really bad, Eddie and I have to get Christopher.
My family came rushing in, they all had medical masks on and I sat up, I ignored my pain and grabbed a hold of Eddie, "Hey, what's wrong?"
"You need to get to Christopher, now."
"Sam,"
"Now, he can't catch this. His immune system can't handle it."
"Sam, breathe, Carla is on her way back now. She got him."
I sighed, "Thank God, are you all okay?"
"Yeah, are you?"
I nodded, "Yeah,"
"Sam, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you, if I could've kept my cool, this wouldn't have ever happened."
"I know, it wasn't your fault. It was the street racers."
Eddie started crying, "I'm so sorry, this is my fault, if something happened to our baby, I wouldn't be able to live with myself."
"Don't talk like that, everything is going to be just fine."
"Wait, back up, baby?" Buck asked. I smiled and nodded, "Did I miss something here?"
"You tell me, you're the one that told the whole station that we had sex," Eddie remarked making me laugh.
"Regardless," Maddie started. "Everyone is okay, and this pandemic will be over soon. Just a few months at most in quarantine and everything will be fine after that."
I nodded, "Yeah, everything is going to be fine."
"We will be in touch Sam, your nurse let us stay because she knows you but you're only allowed one person in here with you."
"Okay, I love you both. Stay safe."
"We love you too. Let us know how it goes."
"We will," Eddie took my hand and I smiled faintly at him. "You know, Maddie wasn't happy with me, she screamed at me when I got here and ended up slapping me. I think she knocked some sense into me."
I laughed. "Good, please just trust me okay? If you want to see Mariana again, take me with you. I have no issues going along with you."
"I promise, I'm so sorry."
"I'm sorry too."
Eddie kissed my hand as the door opened again. "It's here."
A wave of anxiety crashed down on me. I squeezed Eddie's hand and he shut his eyes, "You're okay," He whispered.
The machine got hooked up and I kept my eyes shut, "Are you ready?" Nic asked.
"Y-Yeah."
"Okay, try to relax. You're going to be okay."
I nodded, the cold gel was spread across my stomach, I looked at Eddie, I was too scared to look at the screen. "Is there a heartbeat?" I asked.
Nic paused, she took her headphones off and I looked at her. "No,"
My world stopped, this couldn't be happening.
There is no way. I can't lose my baby.
Nic must have heard wrong. That or the machine is broken. There is no way that I lost my baby.
My vision started getting blurry, tears were rolling down my cheeks, I looked at Eddie but his reaction didn't match mine.
He was staring at the screen in awe. "Did you hear what she said?" Eddie asked.
My eyes widened, how could he be happy after hearing that news? I-I'm going to be sick. I can't do this.
"Sam?" Nic asked. "Hey, did you hear the second part of what I said?"
"Second part?" I whispered, "What more do I need to hear? My baby is gone. I fucked up, I don't want to hear anything else."
Nic drew her eyebrows together, "I shouldn't have started like that, I'm sorry."
"You didn't do anything. It's my fault."
"Sam, just listen," Eddie said.
Nic grabbed my free hand. "There isn't a heartbeat. There are two."
